The two methods were like - one, you get one backup life and if another player kissed your corpse you jumped to the backup body. Two, if you went god tier you could only be killed permanently by a "just" or "heroic" death. If you got killed by any other kind you'd revive. So...if you had no backup life and weren't god tier, you're dead. If you were god tier but do something heroic or something deserving of death and then die? You're dead. Permanently, both ways.
