Couple of quick questions, Chromasomes —

1) I'm assuming a bunch of people got music boxes last month since those seemed to be the party favor du jour from Mr. F. Have people been playing with them? One of mine really obviously does some hinky stuff and the others are kind of...quasi-hinky, so I'm just wondering if that's a universal experience.

1b) Did anybody get a box that doesn't do something? Besides just playing music, I mean.

New people, if you have no idea what I'm talking about, sometimes doing the quests posted on the quest forum gets you fun and interesting prizes. Which, coincidentally, brings me to —

2) Has anybody gotten fun and interesting prizes from the ones from this month? I'm mostly asking because I'm wondering about the one about wrecking people's days, just how heavily Mr. F is incentivizing us all being dicks to each other.

And, that quest seems a bit off from the other quests we usually get. I mean, I've always been given the vibes that Signore FFF actually wants us to work together. This seems... rather counter-productive to that goal.

So why do you think we got a quest like that, then? You think there's a rogue Mr. #000000 who's trying to sabotage the F Project?

Umm... not as far as I'm aware? The one I received makes me a little tired, but I think that's just what music boxes do to me in general.

I'm not sure. There's too many theories about that, but I'm chalking it up to "He's probably just a psychopath".

Kinda makes you wonder what it is a psychopath wants with all of us, then, doesn't it?

My music box plays a lovely melody. I've noticed that when I wound it up before sleeping, it creates a protective barrier against dark thoughts.

I received some fairy wings, I assume from exterminating the dreadful beasts. I presume they're decoration? More useless items, but the fairies are dangerous enough to warrant the need to eliminate them from the forests.

[ she... will eventually learn that isn't the case in a not-so pleasant way, but not yet. ]

That's kind of morbid, though. Having us kill fairies and then giving us their wings as trophies.

Yes. Although I wasn't in favor at first of using a crutch, I've become more amenable to it. If it makes things easier, why not?

I do agree. They're not even very nice looking wings. I never thought fairies could be so malicious. The ones in my land are kind but wary things.

Some stories about fairies are just like that. I mean you've got your really good benefactor fairies, like godmothers and stuff, but then you've got the ones that like...kidnap children and steal your name and all that.

There's a spectrum, I guess, is what I'm getting at here.

I've never heard of stories like that! The fairies in my realm are all rather benevolent. The smaller ones are said to bring blessings of life to those injured in their presence. The greater ones can bestow enchantments.

Though if this realm is like the fairytale stories that are in the library, what you say makes a lot of sense. I've been wondering how much of those tales this world emulates. Maybe we're just trapped in some long story ourselves.

The whole point of fairy tales is that there are variations on common themes, honestly. Like, at least where I'm from, most places have a given story that follows a common set of events, but they change things up in the details. So you might have six different stories that are all genuinely different, but they're all sort of getting across the same idea and sequence of events.

I feel like this place might operate on similar logic. It's not the same as any tale anybody has ever heard before, but it's got those common elements.

The fairytales in my land were more akin to legends and myths of past. Not so much about teaching lessons, but to teach our ancient past.

It's rather boring to just repeat the same structure and story over and over. Surely that would get old. You need to change things up to liven the experience!

Huh. I mean, yeah, we have those, too, but we divide them up into different things. Myths versus tall tales versus fairy tales versus folklore. They're all a little different, I guess. But with some overlap.

Like, fairy tales specifically are a distinct subset of stories that have to have a certain set of qualities before we think of them as a fairy tale. Myths are something else entirely. Still stories, but different purpose, different themes, different casts of characters.

1) Somehow I feel certain that in a place like this there's a higher-than-average percentage of people who have a lot of nightmares. Though I guess it'd still be a little bit of guesswork, since there's no way to guarantee a person will have a nightmare on any given night and control for that.

2) Also if he had two interns one of them would've killed the other anyway, so fair point.

I wouldn't think so, that makes for kind of an awful incentive, but I've been known to be wrong a time or two in my life, so.

Not concerning, exactly. Sometimes they're kind of fun. Sometimes they're useful, too — this one time finishing a quest got you a basket of bath products.

You should've heard the rejoicing over the return of shampoo.

Oh, god, I believe it. That alone would be way more than enough incentive for me to keep doing things, having difficult hair's a real pain. :(

Was that your personal favorite so far then? Or something else?

Yup. It got bad enough that I went the extra mile and figured out how to magic up hair gel because all the hotties around here can't exist if they're not gellin' like a felon.

But no, I think the best thing I ever got was this big stupid foofy dress that's dumb and I love it.

That's honestly kind of a cute reward to get? I'll hold out hope for something more on that end.

But did you say you can magic up hair gel?? What else can you do? If you don't mind me asking, I mean.

They're cute sometimes. I guess it's kind of an assortment? Like a box of mixed chocolates. Sometimes it's a caramel, and then sometimes it's like. Coconut.

I can do a lot of things. Gel hair, fix leather, make light, imitate sound...a lot of times when new people arrive here I go dry them off, I can evaporate water...

Seriously? Man, I'm a little jealous, all of that beats the hell out of seeing dead people.

It sounds like that kind of magic has to be pretty useful in a place like this though, huh?

I realize you asked me a question but I'm demanding an answer first.

I mean, there's more to it than that, but that's about the most basic explanation.

Doesn't being a medium mean you channel ghosts? Like I'm pretty sure that kind of thing involves explicitly acting as a dead people conduit. By definition.

I mean, yeah, I do that too? I hate running errands, the ghosts I know like having a body again for a bit, everyone's pleased. It's not so bad.

But where I'm from we've sort of expanded on that-- some of us are more like general supernatural liaisons? It's primarily dead people I end up helping, though, so not too far from the root of it. We really don't do things like the whole seance business though, that's largely fake.
