This is just something I have been thinking about lately ...

I'm finding that by talking to others in this world, that my home has some things that are completely normal there that people here have definitely never heard of or experienced in their own worlds.

I'm curious, what are some things in your worlds that you've come to find don't exist in other worlds?

honestly i'm usually on the giving end of the whole "wtf that doesn't exist back home!!!!!!" speech
but i mean saying that i've had to explain some technology and internet stuff to people here before. tho i'm also positive they aren't exclusive to my version of Earth

Oh, yeah, I've had some technology explained to me, too. Other worlds tend to have more of it than mine does.

not that that's a hard bar to clear cause i'm pretty sure mine doesn't have any
or if it does it's super hidden away

I have something akin to magic in my world, so it seems like most worlds either have a focus on technology or a focus on magic.

That's really interesting to know, actually.

like what rule is apparently written all over the multiverse that stops technology and magic being able to exist in the same place?

so what kinda magic does the place you come from got going on?

Well, I only just sort of realized this for myself ... I've never really had a reason to think about it until now.

We have artes. They're kind of magical I guess? I can do some minor healing, but I can also shoot fireballs.

that makes now the perfect time to start, right? we gotta do something to fill up the time here and it might as well be throwing out ideas about the nature of reality

idk that sounds more than just kinda magical to my totally non-magical ass
is using one of these artes things just like casting a spell or something?

It gives me something to think about other than what's going on at home, I guess.

Yes, but there are also artes that can be used with, say, a sword, or a bow and arrow. My brother uses a soma that manifested for him as an arrow shooter, so though he and I both have healing abilities, he is also able to use artes that make his arrows more effective against enemies.

I think there are little things for all of us, but... I'd definitely say there have been some worlds that have it more dramatically than others. Is yours one of those?

I think so. I've found that there are things in my world that aren't in others, and I'm not exactly sure how to explain it.

I've also found there's more technology in other worlds than in mine. A friend I've made here had to teach me how to use this laptop thing.

I guess laptops really aren't that common in general, if you consider all of the worlds ever.

I was talking to someone else here and it looks to me that a lot of worlds either have an excess of technology or magic. I haven't found a lot of people saying they have both.

Yeah, I think you're right. There's usually an emphasis on one or the other.

It's interesting to think about. Are there any worlds out there that have both?

I think there are, but... one's usually hidden, or less well-known than the other. That's my experience, at least.

To start with, it appears that in some realms, magic doesn't exist - or at the very least, is incredibly well hidden.

Oh, wow! We have artes, but I'm not sure if they really qualify as 'magic' ... I guess they might, to some.

Could you explain "artes" to me?

[spiria]

Well, I haven't really had to explain it to anyone before, but I'll try.

I can do some minor healing, and I can use elemental skills. I can shoot fireballs, and do some other elemental based artes to defend myself.

Not all artes are elemental, though. My friend Shing back home, he uses mostly sword-related artes. For us, it's mostly based on what our soma is.

Oh! I guess not everyone knows what those are, either ... They're special weapons that only some people in my world are able to properly use. My friends and I are among them. They take on the form of whatever is best for the wielder.

but also like, psychic powers and all the stuff related to that? it's odd, having to explain things everyone knows about to others.

I had that sort of thing happen to me recently. Rin had to show me how to use this thing so I could communicate here.

Psychic powers, though? That's something your world has? That's really interesting.

yeah! most people don't have powers like that, but everyone knows about them.

Not completely without, but definitely not quite as developed as this thing is.

Oh, that's cool ... I don't think anything we have is really close to psychic.

i wonder if someday we'll have someone here who thinks this technology is really far behind.

Elementals sound interesting. Would you be up to telling me a little about them? Especially since they're so important to your world.

There's probably other things but that's the big one that sticks out for me, even if we were in the process of phasing them out of production by the time I got dropped in this clusterfuck.

I think you've talked a little bit about Mobile Suits to me before, I'm kind of interested in hearing more.

It's pretty complicated for someone who's never seen one before.

Maybe you can draw one? It might make it easier to explain to people if they have a visual representation.

I'm about as artistically inclined as a rock. And Gundams in particular are super complex.

I'm sure I'll figure out a way to explain them eventually that doesn't result in tilted heads and pinched brows.

I'm sure you're better than a rock. Still, I guess I understand. I'm not exactly great at art, either.

If my friend Beryl were here, she might be able to do something with a description, but ... Obviously, she's not here.

Nah a rock is pretty close to my ability there. Put me in the cockpit of a mobile suit or a ship and I've got it down in seconds. Put a pencil in my hand and tell me to draw a circle I'll probably break the pencil trying.

It seems to me that no other worlds know of the Airship or other steam-powered dirigibles - which I find quite strange, seeing as a great number of you are from the future.

We have airships! I was only able to ride in one very recently before arriving here, though. They're not common in my world, but they do exist.

Then you may be the first one to share that in common with me. My friend is an engineer who devotes much time to working on them.

That's so cool! Sadly, the owner of the airship I rode in isn't exactly a great person ... He kind of drugged my friends and I and gave us over to the military ...

[ It was not a fun time.

... She also isn't a fan of heights, so it might have been better that she was knocked out for most of that ride. ]

I do imagine that would take away from the enjoyment of your first airship ride. Now how did such a thing happen?

... It's a really long story.

[ A long story that involves a fairy tale, her entire personality being spread across the world, and ... lots of things that are difficult to explain.

And no, not really part of a criminal gang? Just part of a huge misunderstanding. One that. Kind of affected others pretty badly. ]

I hope you get another chance to ride in an airship under happier circumstances, though - it's an exhilarating experience, to fly through the air.
