[This conversation is already quite baffling. Link can't understand why this person would not feel loyal to his own kind. Does being a halfling make him an outcast, maybe? Surely he must feel some displeasure having to kill his people. Link isn't sure he could go through such a thing with Hylians.
But seeing as he can hold his own, he's not intimidated by Rin any more than he is the demons he'd just offered to help kill.]
Granted exorcists for centuries have been using demons as their aids against others who would cause trouble, and demon-blood families are fairly common even in the 2000's era.
But for Rin, "complicated" covers it pretty well.]
uh you can drop by the cafe if you want? its at the back of bluo and there's a sign out front so its pretty easy to spot
[Rin is where he said he'd be - in the kitchen inside the house, the front living room of which has been decorated with mismatched cafe seating. Tables, chairs, none of it particularly fashionable and some even in glaringly horrible colors, but everything is functional at least.
[This is the cafe? He can say for certain he's never been here now. It looks more like somebody's home, although he doesn't get many chances to see the inside of the homes in Bluo.
He taps the toes of his boots by the door to knock off the snow before stepping farther in.]
Hello! [he answers the voice.] Is there a Mr. Rin here?
["Mr. Rin". That sounds funny to him for some reason. Even back home the only "Okumura-san" is his brother, never him. He turns around and gives a toothy grin, showing off sharp canine teeth.]
[Link is surprised to see that he's so normal looking. He actually looks more normal to him than most of the "humans" here thanks to his pointed ears, which are almost as long as a Hylian's. The toothy grin that follows does scale back the familiarity a bit, but still, Link would never have guessed that he is even part demon, let alone half.
He strides farther inside and nods respectfully.] Alright, Rin. Nice to meet you. I'm Link. Ready to go?
[He does have a tail, but he's been hiding it a bit more lately. Even with that, though, Link's perception is correct - Rin does look relatively normal for being a supposed half demon.]
Yeah.
[He dries his hands off on a ratty but clean towel, tossing it on the counter and snagging his sword from where he had propped it up against the wall.]
Where are these demons, anyway? Have you seem them already?
[He follows Rin out of the cafe and back outside, his shield and sword clinking softly on his back. Link had accepted his invitation to go hunt some, but that doesn't mean he knows anything about them. That hadn't stopped him from wanting to help, but he does still want to know whatever he knows.]
Y'know, I don't actually know yet. I've only come across one demon so far since I got here and she was pretty strong. These ones, though, there wasn't anythin' on the quest post about them.
[Admittedly he doesn't know what 'dastardly' means outside of guessing it has something to do with causing trouble, which is what he's banking on at this point.]
I figure if we head for the forest we'll probably hear or see somethin'.
[If he's already had a run-in with one, that's good - he's got some experience they can draw from. He continues to pepper him with questions as they walk towards the edge of town.]
Yeah, I did. It was a spider demon. Looked like a pretty woman when we first found her, but I could tell from the get-go that it was a demon even with the disguise.
[Thank you, extra senses.]
It wasn't an easy take down - [Okuyasu getting all flustered over her did not help.] but I managed it without gettin' knocked around too much.
[That's interesting - and worrying. He wonders what the extent of that ability could be. Had he passed by a demon at some point and not even realized it?
...Wait. Could this "Rin" himself be a full-blooded demon trying to trick him? Link peers at him. Probably not. But now the thought is in his head.]
[Link might have been obligated to do something about Rin otherwise. He relaxes a little bit and looks out into the woods, which they'd entered a minute ago.]
Are there any nearby? Can you... I dunno, smell them or something?
[Link picks up his pace and draws his sword. Despite his urgency, his footsteps are still pretty silent, considering they're walking through the woods.
A minute later, Link slows down again and eventually stops. This part of the forest is way too quiet. Could it be close by?]
[Rin, on the other hand, doesn't draw his. It would give away their position. His flames are controlled, yes, but still visible and active on the blade.
He does keep his hand on the hilt, though, crouching low to keep his foot steps quieter.]
There's somethin' out there, yeah...
[The smell is getting heavier, something of a miasma hanging in the air. A thin fog that would start becoming visible to Link the closer that they get. Rot? Something close to it. The demons here aren't like the ones back home exactly so it was always difficult to categorize them from what he knew (which still wasn't much).
But it smelled very close to rot, and there is a distinctive rustle and eerie, inhuman giggle in the distance.]
They're givin' of somethin' in the air. They're close.
[So that smell is the demon. Bokoblins smelled pretty terrible too, but this smell isn't the same - it's much closer to a decomposing body. Link wrinkles his nose.]
Let's flank it. You go to the right. I'll go left and get its attention, and you'll have an opening.
[Since Rin knew how to kill these, it probably makes more sense to put him on the offense. Link glances at him to hear his response and the giggling continues, getting a little louder.]
[Be grateful your senses aren't heightened like Rin's. He's getting a nose-full of that awful smell, and it's only worse as they get closer. It lingers like a miasma, thick and heavy.
Rin gives a nod at the plan, getting low and moving as quietly as he can through the brush around the right.
Hopefully they won't give Link too much trouble before Rin can jump in and attack.]
[Since Link is the bait, he doesn't bother with stealth. He walks off to the left, his footsteps crunching in snow and dead leaves. The smell gets stronger, and then he hears it, and finally he sees it - whatever this demon is, it's nothing like Rin as far as Link can tell.
He draws his sword and stares it down. After what looks like a moment of hesitation, it gurgles and begins to move towards him, pushing past bushes and branches. The Hylian shuffles backwards, waiting and watching for an attack.]
[It's pretty ugly. Like a cross between a bokoblin and a some sort of oozing muck monster. There are bulbous, grossly pulsating growths on it's face and arms. Rin had been right in his initial thoughts - it was similar to what he had experienced, but not at all like anything he had seen before.
And the fact that they were only seeing one of them when they had definitely heard multiple was worrying to Rin, but it was the only visible target at the moment.
He keeps low and hidden until the disgusting creature bolts at Link. It's then that he yanks the sword out, blue flames flashing to life along the blade and giving Rin's body a blue aura of the same hue. He slams the tip of the blade in to the soft forest floor at his feet, yelling... an attack name.]
Satan Campfire!
[Yup. He did that.
But it's effective? The flames burst in a line along the ground up to the creature before exploding beneath it, engulfing it entirely.]
[When the creature bolts, Link braces himself and prepares to start fighting it on his own. But instead, flames erupt and Link uses the coiled energy in his body to dodge to the side, avoiding Rin's attack. A magic spell, maybe? Seemed like a spell.
The demon squeals and flails within the flames. Link smells burning grass and wood.]
Great shot! [he waves to Rin but stays in his position opposite the demon, to keep an eye on it. He would finish it off, but he doesn't want to get too close to the magic fire.] Not so bad after all, I guess?
[Damn, that creature lit up like a firework. Whatever that ooze was, it was apparently very flammable.
Thankfully Rin's flames are aimed for the demons. Had Link gotten near any he would have found it pleasantly warm. It's an interesting power, to say the least.
Grinning toothily, Rin is still patting himself on the back for that one shot kill when a shrill, painfully high pitched shriek sounds from the brush seconds before something launches directly at Rin's head.]
Just as quickly as the demon emerged to get revenge on Rin, an arrow whips through the air and lands directly in one of its eyes. It squeals and falters its landing just enough to miss Rin and crash into the grass next to him. On the other side of the flames, Link has his bow drawn and blue eyes focused, ready to fire at any others that appear.]
[Rin rolled to the side, attempting to put more space between the shot creature and himself. Despite the distance he's still splattered with a bit of what can only be described as 'black tar' from the impacts of the arrows. It hits the skin of his forearm, burning in a way that was acidic and entirely different from his flames. It doesn't affect him much, his regeneration all but neutralizing before it can. He hissed a little at the initial sting, quickly brushing it off his arm.
That was a concerning property given that his partner in this wasn't likely to have the same ability to keep himself protected from it.]
Damn... don't get that goop on you!
[More of them, the bushes on either side rustling furiously as they chittered and squealed in anger at their comrades being taken out.]
[Before Rin is done talking, Link has already notched a second arrow and fired it at the demon again, aiming for its other eye. It misses, and as he notches a third one, he takes a few steps away from the chittering bushes. He can't deal with them right this second.]
Keep fighting them! Whatever you did - just keep doing it!
[The third arrow hits its mark. Now completely blind, the goopy demon wails and thrashes around, throwing more evil goop everywhere.]
[The foul smelling ooze is flung all over the place, more drops hitting Rin but once again not doing much more than stinging his skin and leaving red welts behind.
Whatever he did...
Well, they do seem weak to his flames. He doesn't have a visual on the ones in the bushes, but if nothing else the creatures that don't get hit will be flushed out if he goes again.
Right.
He brushes the goop off his arms again and spins his sword around, slamming it down in to the soft soil once more.]
Satan bomb!
[The same as before, though this time the fire explodes out in all directions around him, bursting along the ground until several feet out where the flames erupted in to high pillars that illuminate the forest.]

[And just over an hour later, Link walks through the front door of the cafe. He's carrying a large amount of weapons and equipment on his back.
Here works!
