Hello. My name is Link. I am Zelda's bodyguard. I hope everyone is staying warm.

Anyway... I liked to cook back at home. I cooked very often, in fact. All types of dishes from all around Hyrule. I'm self-taught.

Since coming to this place, I've found some things in the woods and around town that I would like to experiment with in cooking.

I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to assist me, or maybe even be my guinea pig for some of my attempted dishes. If you're wishing for some special meals in particular... maybe I can be that "Fairy Godmother" thing for you.

And, if you already know anything about local ingredients, I would love to know.

I certainly wouldn't be opposed to taste-testing a few recipes. Particularly not for a self-taught chef experimenting with new ingredients.

A quick question, however — you're certain that the things you've found are safe for consumption, correct?

Well, then, I'm even more interested in spectating your efforts. What sort of things have you found?

Most is from the woods. Some items are definitely food, but they're all grey, or only partially colored... some other things are full-color but I'm not sure what they are or if they taste good. Nuts, mushrooms, flowers, grasses and herbs that smelled interesting.

I also have a lot of food that appeared mysteriously in my house last month. This enormous feast appeared on my table overnight. I think I was supposed to eat it all back then, but I saved what I could instead.

Ah, I see. I can tell you that the gray ones won't taste like much, until they get their colors back; when we all first arrived here, everything was gray and it was like eating wood pulp and ashes until we were able to return some color to things.

That's practical of you, though, to have saved what you could. Was it all food you recognized from your own world?

That has been my experience with grey food as well so far, but I'm curious to cook with it anyway... you never know

Yes, the mystery food was all from my world. It was around the time others were getting mysterious items from home that they wanted, so I believe it was part of that strange event?

Very well, I'll be interested to see if you can manage to make something of it. The best I ever did was covering up the greyness with something else.

Did you complete the quest last month for it? Ring the bell and whatnot?

I did but I didn't ask for food... it must have come from somewhere else. Who knows...

At least I know it's safe to eat, since I didn't get sick from the portion I've already ate

Strange. Still, I suppose there is that old saying about gift chocobos and beaks.

Would you be interested in saving some as seedlings, to grow in the garden come the spring?

Oh! That's a fantastic idea! Then we can grow more, and everyone can have some! The tubers especially will definitely grow right?

It's what I've tried to do whenever possible, when a new food resource comes along. Already we're well beyond the meager supplies we'd started out with when I arrived — our fruit resources, especially, have grown considerably.

It's generous of you to share. If you like, I'll offer to cook you a dish myself in exchange, as thanks for the contribution.

at the very least she'll be hard to miss once she makes it over there, since she is an alien with gray skin and orange horns, though she'll be pretty bundled up against the cold. ]

[This person reminds Link of Revali... a bit foul-mouthed and presumptuous. But if they know and like Zelda, they must not be too bad.

He's sitting outside, bundled up in winter wear and nurturing a freshly-lit campfire on the dirt road that laid just outside his overgrown front lawn. Beside him is a large metal soup pot, filled with assorted food and non-food items, and his shield, laying face-down in the grass.

He looks up from the fire to greet the stranger.] Yeah, that's me. Are you my first volunteer?

[ He's not reacting to her appearance, huh. Vriska looks at him thoughtfully for a moment, and then pulls down her scarf enough to show off her fangy grin. ]

You bet! I'm Vriska, by the way.

[ She'll kneel down beside him, sitting back on her heels, though she peers around him curiously at the soup pot. ]

So what do you have in there, anyway?

[Link isn't so unused to seeing strange races and creatures, despite having never met one of whatever this person is. Not even the fanged grin seems to particularly faze him.]

That's all the ingredients I collected. You can dump it out and take a look if you want.

[He looks up to give her a friendly smile and gets a closer look at her face. Yeah, he's never seen one of her before. That's cool.]

My name is Link... nice to meet you, Vriska.

Nah. I'm trusting you, Zelda's bodyguard.

[ a decision that will surely go well for her.

Vriska kinda pulls her head back when he peers at her, but she still smiles, if incredulously. ]

Haha. It's nice to meet you too! Honestly, I have an ulterior motive for coming out here, which is to figure out what makes you so special you can guard someone like Zelda. [ a grin, toothy. ]

I'm not certain how possible it is, but there is one recipe I'd like to see if you can recreate.

Very well, if you want to cook I will eat what you make. There are strange bears in the forest. There may well be one in the ice house.

Back home, yes. And again since I've been here.

You may need to back up a bit... I don't understand what you mean with the bears and an ice house.

There are bears with strange wings or other appendages in the forest.

Near the well there's a freezer house. Meats and such are being stored there.

Er, so wait... Do you want me to cook the bears or the meats?

The bears. I've never eaten one before.

Sure, I can probably do that. I've taken down bears for their meat before.

Are the bears here aggressive? It's the middle of winter, are you sure they aren't hibernating?

I was attacked last month. It's not a stretch to believe they'll come out if you go into the woods.

Hmm they must be hungry if they're attacking people. Or maybe they've had too much contact with people...

Either way we should probably do something if they're dangerous. Would you show me where the ice house is?
