I have a few questions of my own that I'd like to ask everyone, if you'll bear with my curiousity. I've never had the chance to address such a large forum of people before, so I'd like to get as many opinions as possible.
In the world that you come from, does magic exist? Or is it something you've only experienced in this town?
If you had the opportunity have any wish granted in exchange for a heavy burden, would you take it? If so, what would you wish for?
And lastly... do you think this town is a safe place? Does it have someone to protect it, or does that fall on our shoulders?

i. yeah we have magic. or at least some people do. it doesn't seem to work quite the same way here, i'm pretty sure magic back home's related to our deities and stuff. kinda more regal than the random things that happen here.
ii. .......could i wish to take someone else's burden for them? if so, yeah. i'd do it.
iii. this place is probably safer than my home planet is atm, but not by much. and we're for sure on our own here. afaik there isn't even a single living person around that didn't come out of the well, let alone some kind of benevolent guardian or smth.
no subject
"Regal"? What do you mean by that?
You could, but would that sort of wish be out of true selflessness? Or would it be because you want the other party to feel grateful for your sacrifice? I think that distinction is important to consider.
I was afraid that would be the case... I want to do whatever I can to help protect the people here.

nothing really comes to attack us other than the magic stuff
so I think it's rly just a case of taking care of yourself?
and ur roomies too!
for your other questions tho, no magic! stuff like that only exists in movies
and probably not... LOL I'd have to know more I think

I see. Then for the sake of the question, let's say that you were granted the ability to use magic in exchange for your wish being granted. However, the trade-off would be that you had to bear the burden of a curse.

2) That depends on the burden, and what the catch is. There's always a catch. I've had that offer made to me before and it's never as good as the guy offering it makes it sound, ever.
3) When you say "protect it", do you mean protect the people who live here from something bad, or do you mean the town itself needs protection?
no subject
Let's see... for the argument, I suppose the "catch" would be a responsibility that could put your life at risk. However, your wish would also grant you with a magic far more powerful than the one you already have.
Both, I suppose. I don't know anything about the land itself, but I know for a fact that I would never want harm to befall any person.

I can't say I'm overly fond of answering the questions of someone who hasn't even the courtesy to offer their name, but considering the subject, I've decided to humor you for as long as you hold my interest. So, to begin with: yes, magic exists. There are very few people who wield it, and aside from a few rare exceptions, it's more commonly limited to witches.
[ Which, ironically enough, would be the type of person he'd expect to ask these kinds of questions. Awkward! ]
Whether the town is safe or not is irrelevant, as we have little choice in the matter. But generally, most threats have come from the forest, and only rarely have gone beyond the border.
And, as for your other question... well, I suppose I've already decided on my answer. I definitely won't be telling you, though.

[ she types and submits the response immediately, as if by reflex. she needs to know if there are witches that are spreading their curses to the people brought to this town, along with if there are any other magical girls that can help her.
she then continues to read the rest of the message, and wonders if she's possibly jumped the gun. after all, most people understand "witches" to be the stuff of fairy tales and children's stories, and not real threats that wreak havoc on humanity without its knowledge. ]
That is... if you aren't comfortable with giving any more answers, I understand. You'll have to forgive me - I'm only trying to understand the situation. Where I come from, magic is something that is supposed to be kept secret... but I'm beginning to wonder if such a thing even matters here.

2 i think i already did that not by my own choice tho
3 yes and no it can get dangerous sometimes we had a defense force at one point but its sort of up in the atm because we lost the two main leaders and a few others
no subject
A defense force... it's reassuring to know that people are willing to organize to protect each other. Do you think we could benefit from rebuilding it with new volunteers?

Magic exists in my world too, but it's all tied to ESP or the spiritual world. From what I've gathered this goes through a different scope with a relatively consistent theme of fairytales.
I guess if I had any wish, it would be to take my brother's burden. I'd rather not elaborate, but it's something that's ruined his life.
This town probably isn't safe, but I could care less what happened to it. It's not doing us any favors.
no subject
[ she knows magic to exist as a fact, but a person having mind powers is the stuff of science fiction. it's funny, in a way. ]
I think it's natural to want to make a wish for someone else's sake. As long as it's for the right reasons, I think it's a very noble cause to shoulder.
What about the people living here? Do you believe they should be protected?

i am no stranger to burdens, but i am unsure what sort of wish i would want to make...world peace is something of an impossible desire, after all.
as for the town - no place can be called entirely safe, and this place is subject to whims we cannot seem to control or understand as of yet, but it seems largely safe so far. it is still up to us to keep ourselves and our friends safe from all that happens, though.
no subject
I don't think that's impossible. If magic can exist, I think miracles can be born from it under the right circumstances. For the sake of my question, you should assume that you don't have any limitations.
Do these "whims" follow any kind of pattern? Are they isolated to any particular place or time?

Second, I couldn't possibly make such a wish without knowing all the details. A "heavy burden" has a different definition for everyone.
Third, you must be new here, because we are the town's only line of defense.
no subject
Let's say that the burden is a responsibility to protect others while routinely putting yourself in danger. This is all hypothetical, of course.
[ lies! but she's gathering information for her own sake. ]
I guess there's no hiding it. I want to help out, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can.

1. no, there wasn't any magic.
2. probably? idk, why not? i'd wish for a healthy human body, that sort of thing, where there are no viruses or bacteria.
3. dunno, just got here.

I only got here today, too. It seems like there's a good number of us.

1. In my world there is no Magic. In fact I would not believe it existed at all save for what I have experienced here, and it took me some time to accept it as Real.
3. This town is most assuredly not safe; it is full of monsters and danger in kinds both physical and otherwise so you must always be on your guard. Our late friend M. Guren was in charge of a group who would protect it called the Defense Force - I believe there are others keeping it together even after his disappearance. So, in a sense, it is on our shoulders.
Your question 2 is a tricky question that cannot be answered in only a few words and so I shall leave it be.
Yours,
Lupin

[ thankfully, magical girl experience has given her something of an open mind to these kinds of things. it feels easier to adapt rather than fight it, anyway. ]
I'm glad that people have taken the responsibility to protect others that may not have the power to do so. I've heard that these monsters come from the forest; is that true?
[ she decides it best to not push him for an answer to question 2. this is all voluntary, after all. ]

2.) depends. what's the catch of the wish?
3.) this town is absolutely not safe, but that's what people are working on. then again? guess it depends on what you'd call safe
no subject
For the sake of my question, assume that you'll have to take on a significant responsibility that regularly puts your life at risk. In exchange, any wish that you want can be granted without question.
I'd define "safe" as the ability to live a normal life without fear of injury or suffering. I've gathered that isn't exactly the case here, but it does seem like there's an effort to protect people from threats.

Greetings. My name is Saber.
Yes, magic does exist in my world. However, its prevalence has declined over time. As of the year 2004 A.D., magecraft is an underground practice with a number of organizations dedicated to keeping the existence of magic a secret from the public. But many years in the past, magic was a commonly accepted phenomenon.
[ ... Casually ignoring the second question... ]
As for safety, that is an important question. I do not trust that we were brought here to live in peace. Yet from what I can see, the town has very little in the way of collective defense. There is certainly room for improvement.
no subject
That's fascinating... I'm no stranger to magic being kept from the masses, but I don't think I'd call it "magecraft". What I'm familiar with is a little different.
[ she also takes note of the year she mentions. 2004... that was seven years ago from her perspective. she was still in elementary school back then - it still brings a heavy sadness to remember her life before she became a magical girl. ]
I've been told that there's a loose group of people that have formed a "defense squad", but it's been left without leadership. At the very least, the threats we face seem to be external - no one person is actively working against us.

Magic definitely exists. But most people don't know about it. Actually, I hadn't known about it until a little less than a year ago.
I guess...that depends on the wish and the burden? I can't say I've really ever thought about it. Wishing doesn't seem very practical.
I'm not sure I'd call it 'safe' since weird stuff keeps happening and a lot of it is the very opposite of safe. Still, everyone here watches out for each other here so it's not too bad.
no subject
Hypothetically, the wish could be anything you desire. The burden in exchange, however, would have to equal its strength. Taking it would be completely optional, of course.
I'm glad to hear that. It sounds like many of the people here are willing to protect those that lack the strength to do so.

[ wow, that second question really going for it there, huh. ]
I'd wish for the people I love, and everyone else to be safe. And happy.
This place isn't very safe, although the people here are pretty okay. There's an unofficial group of people who are protecting it. A kind of citizen's force.
Why all the questions?
no subject
[ it's something of a disclaimer before she replies to his answers. she realizes now that it might seem odd for a stranger to suddenly start asking weird questions on a forum, but some people seem to be taking it in stride. ]
And would you be willing to take on a burden that equates the power that wish would need to come true?
I'm glad to hear that, at least. I'd like to help in any way that I can.
