I've never been poisoned before, so I guess it's one'a those things I can't heal right away. It hurt like hell, too.
no subject
What do you mean, heal right away? Are you a healer, too? [He hands the cup to him.]
no subject
[There weren't really 'healers' in his world as Link or others might know them anyway. The closest was doctors, and Rin was as far from being an exorcist doctor as one could get.]
I've always recovered quickly from gettin' hurt and I almost never got sick growin' up. Part of bein' a demon, I guess.

He hands Rin the cup of broth.] You know, at first, I was a little unsure about you because of that. [apologetic smile.] I trust you now, of course. Your parents, are they also...?
no subject
He took the broth with a grateful nod.]
That's normal.
[In fact it was far less cruel than how some people back home reacted.]
Mom isn't. ... wasn't.
[He stared at the cloudy broth in the cup for a moment.]
I don't actually know what happened. Dad-- er, the man who raised Yukio an' me that is. He just used to say she passed when we were born, but I really dunno how true that is.
[A lot of pieces to a puzzle he had once tried to ignore were falling into place, and while he still felt a reluctance to understand the past he was beginning to see that in time it was going to be impossible to do so.
Sooner or later he would learn the truth, whether he wanted to or not.]
All I know for sure is that our father is the most powerful demon in Gehenna, a lotta people really don't like that about me, an' somehow... somehow Yukio didn't get any of the power I got.
[Again, a pause, then softly:]
I think he hates me for that.

[It sounds strange to Link, but he reminds himself that Rin is from a place very different from Hyrule. He's unsure whether to ask more about it, since it seems to be a touchy topic, but... maybe Rin would prefer to have the distraction?]
Do you have a good relationship with your sister?
no subject
Brother.
[They both have somewhat feminine names, so he's not surprised at the mix up.]
I think Yukio hates me for not havin' the power I got. But I'unno for sure. It's pretty much impossible to get a straight answer outta him sometimes.
[He sighs, reaching over to the end table to pick up a framed photo.]
We used to be close. Now... I couldn't figure out what he's thinkin' no matter how hard I try. Everythin' went to hell and he's just not the brother I remember anymore.
no subject
Link inspects the photo, wondering which one is Yukio. He can't tell which of the others there have pointed ears, assuming his brother would also have pointed ears.]
You all look close and happy together. [He gestures to Rin's cup of broth, reminding him to drink, as he talks.] This picture is from when things were still good between you? Who are the rest of them?
no subject
He points to the tall, unamused looking one with glasses.]
That's Yukio.
[Then at the others as he named them off.]
Ryuji Suguro, Izumo Kamiki, Konekomaru Miwa, Renzo Shima, Nemu Takara and Shiemi Moriyama. They're my classmates and the other exorcists-in-trainin' with me. We got to have a short vacation to Kyoto - that's a historical town in Japan, where I'm from. Suguro, Miwa and Shima were all from Kyoto but I'd never gotten to go before so I kinda... made them take me to all the dumb touristy spots.
[He smiles a bit, tired and distant but fond of the memory.]

[His brother does come across as a little bit humorless. Considering how tall he is, Link assumes that Yukio is the older brother.
As he passes the photo back to Rin, he catches the happy nostalgia on his face. It sounds like his family situation is... complicated... to say the least. For not the first time, Link wishes he was better at comforting others with words.
So he just says the first thing he can manage to think of.]
You'll see them all again for sure. Including your brother. And maybe you can see the rest of Kyoto then, too.
no subject
He hasn't even gone in to the fact that he has seven other demon siblings.
That's where shit gets real weird.]
I've been here almost a year...
[He doesn't want to bank on getting back any time soon, but he does hope he'll be able to see everyone again eventually.
Even Yukio.
He sets the picture aside again. Wants and wishes were entirely at the whim of Chroma and lately his luck hasn't been too encouraging.]
Thanks for comin' to see me.
no subject
After a pause within his own thoughts, he offers Rin a tired, understanding smile and nod.]
No problem. I'm happy to help. Drink all the broth you want, alright?
no subject
Rin had his own home worries, too, but he knew there was nothing he could do about Yukio's situation here.]
I will. Thanks. Hopefully I'll be alright again in a few days.
