USER: #A5211F - Defense Force
(COLOR)
Any of you who were able to go to the town meeting organized by Mitsuru will know that we discussed a designated defense force for the town. For those of you who weren't, or for anyone who wants a recap, I'll go over this as briefly as I can.
We know the forest is full of creatures not everyone understands, and that those dangers— or something similar— can leak into the town and cause trouble here, too. Those shadows were a perfect example, just like the speaking furniture. We're not always safe, and while there isn't always a threat that we can deal with physically to overcome it, having a defense force would make a lot of people more comfortable. Having people that are physically capable with someone at the top to organize them would be helpful to everyone, I think, especially those who aren't so combat ready.
So, I'm stepping up as leader. I didn't hear any opposition to that at the meeting itself, but if you want to know more about me, you can ask me whatever you want. Here's what I'm going to ask of all of you.
If you're interested in helping and capable in combat, no matter what methods you may use, then I'm asking you to sign up here. I'll keep a list of everyone, including their abilities and strengths/weaknesses, and organize this in a way that's most efficient. In order to do that, I also need suggestions.
Izuku mentioned patrols near the forest. That's one idea, and I want to hear any others that are out there, but here's the basic rundown:
I'll organize people by their strengths and put them in charge of certain activities or areas. How I do this depends on the number of people that sign up. If enough people sign up, I might assign ranks just enough for people to be able to report to someone even if I'm unable to be contacted or out of reach somehow. Once everyone who has wanted to has signed up, we'll schedule meetings and discuss what to do in case of an emergency, or other situations. Basic things like that are what I'm looking into, and most of it will come after I've heard from all of you, but let me know if you have any questions on any of it.
Before I end this, I have another quick question. What do you think our biggest weakness has been in all of this? What has caused the most harm, and if there was a drug that could aid you in this place, what would it be? A first aid or pain reducer? Strength enhancers? Magic resistance?
That's all. I'll answer any questions at any time as soon as I can.

(ooc: Gosh this got so long, but okay!! Like discussed at the town hall meeting, here's defense force sign ups and discussion!! This is just another great opportunity for CR and branching out thanks to IC discussion from characters (and thanks, Mitsuru, for bringing it up!), so feel free to suggest any and all things! Also, if your character wants to sign up but you don't want to tag this, just let me know oocly! You can hit me up oocly, too, if you have any questions or concerns with anything. PM me, or my plurk is
zeloser!
edit: just a minor edit, but sorry I'm slow! I meant to boomerang after work but I'll have to wake for my weekend mid/late saturday and on. I'll also throw up an ooc post/discussion thing for this at some point!)

Still, being led down again makes the hairs at the back of his neck stand up. No! Quit it! That's stupid! Kirishima scrunches up his face and shakes his head rapidly like a dog to shoo the bad thoughts away and then flashes Guren a tentative smile that reaches his eyes.]
That always depends on how sharp the blade is. Can you cut through whole buildings with it with a swing without any problems? [The question is actually serious.] I didn't think you'd have a garden down here.
no subject
He considers that blade question while he glances over to the plants again.]
It's not really a garden. I just brought a few pots over for showing you. [Over from where, he doesn't say... But this isn't his main set up.] Anyway, I can cut a hole through a wall no problem, or through a car, things like that.
[Slowly, he draws his sword and rests it across his opposite palm. A black katana with a red stripe through the center.]
The more power I borrow from the demon inside, the stronger I can hit. A cursed weapon like this can even kill vampires, who are usually immortal. I don't want to hurt you, but I do want to see how much you can take. Would you compare your unbreakability to a type of metal?
no subject
[That's much better than mere academics! Reading written explanations alone on what plants to find would work less well for Kirishima than getting to experience the real thing!]
That's your sword? It's a really pretty blade~ [Reaching out Kirishima stops just before his fingers touch the blade, waiting for permission to go further.] Can I touch it? Also no, my friend Tetsu is the one with the metal quirk. I know we look alike at first, but please don't confuse us.
[He actually pouts at that, because that's a sore spot. Kirishima's quirk is so basic that many people just call it identic to his pal's ability to turn himself to steel, but it's not actually the same at all.]
no subject
[But how can he say no to excitement like that? The demon is chained safe inside, connected to him, so there shouldn't be an issue. He's making note of Kirishima liking hands-on learning, too, since if he's with the rest of these heroes, then Guren knows he's going to be seeing him a lot more after today.]
Anyway, I don't know any Tetsu, so forget about that. I was just trying to figure it out. If you're really some sort of human shield, then I can place you on the front lines in a lot of situations. But if you get hurt, that's on me as the adult and the one leading this all. Get it?
I'm not about to put you in a position where you'll be hurt just because you say you can take it. If that were the case, every one of the people who signed up would be on the front lines in any dangerous situation. What it should really be is a team, working off each other's strengths and weaknesses.
no subject
This blade is really awesome... One just has to look at it to know that it's not just for show. I really like the red and black color too...
[His fingers stop and for a split second his fingertips harden into claws that tap against the metal. It's not a hard tap, just a subtle testing of the surface like an animal might do instinctively. Feeling the effortless resistance Kirishima's smile grows wider and he nods to himself as he steps back.]
You'll have to explain to me what you meant when you mentioned demons and vampires. I don't get cursed just for touching it, right?
[He nods and smiles as Guren explains. His words give Kirishima confidence; seems like this guy is way more honorable than he first looked after all!]
That makes sense. I'm not just the strongest shield but also the sharpest spear, though! You can trust on my resilience! [Grinning impishly he skips a couple of steps back.] I said that it's nothing like metal because my quirk has nothing to do with metal. Do you have giant robots where you come from? I can take one of them or a house being dropped on me anytime! If you want we can just test me hardening against your blade out anytime!
no subject
I can get the idea from that. So, I'll test my blade on you, but let me explain it a bit, first. This is a black series demon weapon, which means that a demon is bound to it by a curse. I've made a contract with it so that I can use it. If I had too much of a weak will, or gave in to my desires, the demon would take over and I would die.
Vampires are immortal beings that can regenerate from just about any damage unless you have a weapon like this, that implants a curse into them. The demon's curse makes it difficult or impossible for them to regenerate, and they can die.
Which means that this is a powerful weapon. I can control how much strength I use on you, but there's going to be a limit where it's too much, so I want to test something else, first. Demonic energy. Are you ready for that? You just have to stand there, and stay standing.
[When "stay standing" is the only rule, it's probably a little worrying...]
no subject
And he really, really likes it!]
So your sword is basically your partner and you guys get stronger the more passionate you are about something? Is that it? Aw man, that's so manly! I like it!
[Strong will + not giving in to lowly desires = really manly and passionate in Kirishima]
Your vampires sound a little like the Noumus, but that's not important now.
[Kirishima slips into a battle pose and suddenly there is nothing soft left of his features. His eyes are sharp and his expression all-out predatory as he smirks and raises his hands so that his lower arms form a loose barrier in front of his face. Kirishima's skin looks rough and rocky now.]
Bring it on!
no subject
[Partner... It's more like the demon is constantly threatening his life? But, well, he guesses they do work together. His desires become the demon's... But becoming consumed by them isn't a good thing.]
...Nevermind.
[Ah, well. There's no use specifying all of that if the kid is going to be so cheerful about it.
The first step isn't a physical attack. It's a test on Kirishima's willpower, among other things. Guren raises his blade, and then stabs it down directly into the floor. In an instant, black energy begins to leak from the blade itself, affecting the entire room. Walls and ceilings seem to crack, the energy is so thick that it's incredibly intimidating, and the aura is visible, like tendrils, or hair. If Kirishima has high psychic resistance, he won't feel a thing.
If he doesn't, then he'll feel a power so intense that it's painful. A normal person would fall unconscious. Someone incredibly strong might only fall to their knees. Stronger than that, and with willpower to match, and then they can stay standing, even if some of them tend to have to lean on something for help.
Guren just wants to see what his reaction to this is like before he unleashes a certain amount of his demonic power physically.]
(ooc: GDFLGD SORRY FOR THIS also I am fine with Kirishima reacting to this however you think is best based on my description!! Willpower is key!! Even high willpower he'll still feel like it's majorly oppressive tho, laughs)
no subject
For a moment he is cold. No, not cold but numb. The same oppressive terror that he has felt when he was forced to recognize that Rappa could crack his hardest state, his one special new move that should have been unbeatable, like it were nothing but a ripe nut. He had been swatted away and destroyed like nothing more but a weak insect. Back then he had broken - Kirishima had been helpless and forced to watch as somebody else had risked their lives in his stead and-
...and that had terrified him more than anything else. It wasn't even the first time that his spirit had been battered like that. Kirishima has no clue about the full nature of Guren's attack, but he has felt this sort of oppression before. One time, two times, three times... Who knows how many countless times more he'll feel this way as he continues his way to become a hero? All he knows is that this is his choice. He has lost to this terror once, and ironically enough this is exactly what helps him to recover and fight against it ever since.]
Uhhhrrrrrrr-!
[His moan turns into a growl as he his hands turn into jagged claws and his skin turns more and more hard with deep sharp lines as his quirk activates more and more like a manifestation of his will fighting against the demonic wave.
Truth be told, Kirishima wants to run away. Each part of his body is screaming that at him, telling him to fall back and that it won't be bad if he does so. It'd be the only thing reasonable in fact, nobody could blame him from not picking this fight. Nobody but himself.
It takes a long moment then Kirishima pushes one of his knees off the ground he has fallen onto. Then his second until he is standing again, shoulders strained. His skin cracks audibly as his muscles move and then he is standing once more proud and strong, grin wild and eyes sparking with the same amount of insane willpower that has kept him defeating all the odds against himself over and over again.
Kirishima is a shield, but he is more than that. He is a guy whose quirk was the bottom level of weak before he has truly set his mind to it and turned it into what it is now, a raw force of nature that needs to be reckoned with. If he gets broken he will reassemble himself and keep facing the danger once more. That's what he owns to himself as a man!
Right now Guren is such a challenge and Kirishima glares at him as such. Not hateful, just with an iron conviction that he'll take him down.]
Is that all you have?
[He isn't really that brave. But action is always better than trying to brace himself against a mental attack, because then Kirishima can give up on himself and just act.]
(ooc: I hope this works, I'm only halfway familiar with OnS's mechanics!)
no subject
[All at once, that energy pulls back into his sword. The room is back to normal, the blackness is gone, and nothing is actually cracked. It was probably just the oppressive nature of it causing that sort of illusion. A table and the plants on it have definitely moved a little in their shaking, though. He's lucky they didn't fall off and break open.
But Guren's eyes are sparkling. He likes that reaction. It's promising, and it tells him plenty about Kirishima. It seems like a lot of the kids here are able to take something like this, far more than the majority of them back home, at least.]
But I'm not trying to give you my all. I'm trying to see how much you can take. Hold out your arm.
[That's what he's going to go for. An arm injury can be treated easily enough, if it happens.]
(ooc: that is perfect, no worries!! ♥ what a cutie he is clutches chest)
no subject
He almost stumbles when Guren cuts the attack off. Taking a quick step forward to regain his balance Kirishima shakes his head to clear it. Then he rolls his shoulders and lets his knuckles meet in front of his chest with a smack.]
That's quite a nasty attack you got there! In a crowd something like that would be fatal!
[It's a test. Kirishima wants to see how Guren will react to a suggestion like that.]
The blade comes next, huh? Alright, but take care not to break it on me.
[Holding out his arm Kirishima hardens it.]
This is my standby level. I'll adjust it the moment the blade hits, so no worries about injuring me.
no subject
[And so, he brings his sword up, and swings it down... But with the normal power of a black series demon weapon, no extra calling on Mahiru for help.]
I'm going to increase my strength slowly. If it starts to be too much, don't tough it out. Tell me.
[Because he really doesn't want to go from nothing to chopping this kid's arm off. So, the longer he doesn't cut, the more he calls on Mahiru for help. Literally—]
Lend me your power, Mahiru-no-yo. [His aura changes completely, similar to the way that the intimidation around the room had felt before, but it's a slow leak. More power, more power... He's going to go slowly, just in case, but if Kirishima is exceptionally resistant to even the power of a demon, that can cut through buildings and cars, then it's likely enough that curse marks will begin to form along the side of Guren's face.]
sorry, I had some problems braining this tag!
At first Kirishima is still standing more or less rigid and taking the hits with a mixture of confident pride and easy resilience, but when the demon's power comes out he starts to have to work for his praise. Slowly, with each increase of the sword's power the visible signs of Kirishima's hardening start to creep more and more across his body until he is evenly covered in a thick defending crust that is his own skin. Furthermore he has also switched into a defensive stance that lets him optimize the way his lower arm is shielding himself. It's only when the curse marks on Guren's skin have become clearly visible that the first blood gushes out after a cut for real.]
Shit...!
[Kirishima draws back with a hiss and shakes his arm out, obviously more annoyed that truly injured by the long cut. It's bleeding enough to be notable but upon closer inspection it's not very deep.]
I'd hoped I'd hold out longer than that. Always getting hit on the same place is never good.
[Shaking his arm out, he gives Guren a questioning glace. Is this enough or should they keep going? He hasn't shown him his hardest form, Unbreakable, yet but for some reason he wants to keep his special move a secret for now. Kirishima wants to think that he is only being tactical, but in truth there are some other reasons as well. Painful reasons that left their scratch marks on his heart.]
oh gosh sorry!! it's great though!
[He'd backed off the moment he saw blood, stepping back and sheathing his sword, watching Kirishima. Concern isn't on his face, since it's not a deep wound, and they'd agreed to this, anyway. It'd be more insulting if he was, he thinks.
Instead, he looks a little excited?]
That's not bad at all, kid. In a real situation, you'd be moving a lot more than that, evening out the blows. I got plenty of information from that alone. Thanks again.
please don't be sorry, I'm just sometimes clumsy with action tags! and ty! ;;
Taking Guren's action as a clue that they're done with their fight training Kirishima undoes his quirk and stands at ease.]
Thanks. You're welcome, I guess. You're pretty strong yourself. [Rubbing his cut that has started stinging by now Kirishima frowns. Even though he hasn't gone all out he wishes he could have blocked Guren more.] So, what are those plants you want me to look for? You said you want to use them for drugs?
no subject
[He points out the couple he has sitting on the table, and it should be clear what they're there for, now. He brought them just so Kirishima could see.]
None of these are ones I know from Japan or even Earth, but I've found that they help in things like allowing the body to accept health, and allowing the body to live up to its true potential. Things like experimental drugs can put a strain on the human body that's more harm than it is help, unless we have things like this to balance it out.
[This is a bunch of BS anime science, but it's fine.] If you can find me a decent supply of any of these, I'd appreciate it. You can take them with you for reference, if you want.
no subject
I can't promise you I'll find any or the right ones, but I'll try. Which one is for which? Do you have a name for them? Maybe a hint where they usually grow?
[Taking his phone out Kirishima snaps pictures of each plant quickly - once a full picture, then a close up of the leaves and of whatever else seems distinct to him. Then he opens his note app so that he can add any details Guren will give him to the pictures. It all happens so quickly and fluently that it's obvious that Kirishima has been primed for situations where he needs to find something he isn't familiar with before. (Usually it's lost kids, wallets, bags or medicine, though.)]
no subject
The forest. [He goes through each of them, giving a few more details. No names, but how this one has jagged edges on the leaves, and the ones with smooth edges are different. Or how this one only seems to grow in the parts of the forest near Bluo, those small little parts. So on and so on. There's just two or three.]
The fact that you're trying is enough.
no subject
Give me two or three weeks for searching around. Do you need me for anything else?
no subject
[Shallow, safe distances!] That's it for now.
