Hello, everyone. It's Dextera.

I've recently come into the possession of a potion that allows me to speak with animals. It's limited in both quantity and effective time, but with everyone coming in recently, I've noticed that there are a lot of new animals running around the town. If anyone has very strong feelings about learning the emotions of their animal companions, please let me know. I'm willing to use the last of the potion to ask.

Additionally, it seems that the thoughts of the creatures in the forest are as distorted as their bodies. I could understand them, but I couldn't "understand" them. I did learn that the geese are very angry. For those of us who have been investigating the forest, I thought this would be of interest.

[ it feels like such a mild thing to be worried about, amidst everything else, that the house he's been designated is full of girls—but dextera might have been hesitant, too, if he were paired up with more than just estelle. he gestures around them, and then to a different room, off somewhere else. ]

[ joshua was here first, technically, but estelle is apparently a package deal. ]

Heh, well, one girl is okay! I just... if I stay here, I've got a place with Noct and Ig--Tellus. Totally different from just me staying by myself with girls I don't know.

[Or even staying with other people he doesn't know.]

And Estelle's really nice. She ran into me in Flavo before I knew the guys were here. I think I can handle living in the same place as her.

[ props to him for sticking with ignis' fake name, even though basically the whole town is more than aware that his name is ignis thanks to a certain loud-mouthed prince. dextera doesn't seem to react to prompto's slip, since he knows well enough that "tellus" and "ignis" are one in the same. ]

With Noctis? [ he has a whole special sign for noctis' name—an "N," held against the face like the sign for "sleeping." ] Share a room?

[ that's the part he's blinking at—the idea that prompto and ignis and noctis might all pile in a place together. it's not a modesty thing—just personal space! he's got room in his area, although it's unlikely that any of those chocobros will want to stay there. ]

[He laughs, delighted by that particular rendition of Noct's name, and nods.]

As long as they'll have me, yeah. We're pretty used to tight quarters.

[More importantly, he picks up his hands as if to mimic what Dextera was doing, but he's not familiar enough to have caught it.]

How'd you do that, what was the sign for Noct's name?

[ dextera looks at his hand, like he’s surprised that he did anything of note, but he’s really just surprised that prompto noticed it. it’s nice, to feel heard.

so he repeats the gesture, this time breaking it apart. ]

N. [ two fingers, held together and pointed down. ] Sleep.

[ he lays his hand against his face, like someone miming a pillow, but that really just is the sign for sleeping. then he puts them together, replacing his flat hand with the pointed fingers instead, and that makes— ]

Noctis.

N. [He says it aloud as he copies the movement, trying to fix the meaning in his head.] Sleep. Noctis.

[It's simple enough. He checks Dextera's expression to see if he got it right, then grins.]

So fitting, dude. You know, once I drove his dad's car off the road and he didn't even wake up in the back? I could've crashed and killed us all!

[ the alarm is apparent! there's so much to unpack in prompto's light, conversational comment, and dextera mostly just seems shocked that noctis' sleepiness would go that far. he does take one hell of a nap, though. ]

Are you OK?

[ are any of them really okay ]

Haha! Don't worry, it was a long time ago, man. And I didn't actually hit anything. Though then--then Telly took the wheel after that. Guess he was kind of annoyed with me.

[He will remember! Tellus Argentum, Tellus Argentum, Tellus Argentum.]

But it was for a puppy so he wasn't that mad. He's an understanding guy, Telly.

[ yes... that telly. based on what he's seen, though, he's a little surprised that ignis would be so chill over the fact that a car nearly got wrecked and noctis nearly died, all for a puppy. ]

How long—friends?

Me and Noct? Mm, first day of high school, so it's been about five years now. And then the others kind of came with the package, but you know.

[He shrugs, somewhat sheepish again.]

I think it took them a little longer to warm up to me. I don't always make a great first impression.

[ dextera doesn’t think that’s true—prompto’s first impression with him is just fine! though dextera might be biased, since he’s endlessly tolerant of almost everything. ]

This time. [ dextera gestures between them, reassuring. ] Good.

[Like that, Prompto lights up happily, like a dog who's just been told that he, too, is good.]

You're a nice guy, Dex.

[And now they're friends, too.]

You don't mind if I stay here, too, do you? It's pretty crowded, but I promise I don't take up too much space.

[ dextera... is always happy to receive new friends. it's still new to him, still exciting, and he's not sure that will ever wear off. has he ever had friends before? (the answer is no, never, but he doesn't remember this.) ]

Please! [ emphatically signed! ] People—warm.

[The wattage on that smile turns up. He is fluorescent. He nods--with his whole body, almost, a nod-bounce--and offers Dex a big thumbs-up.]
