Hey there, I don't think I've ever properly introduced myself here. I'm Sorey. Um, sorry if this is hard to read. [Not like he had any control over that or anything.]

Um, so, a while back when we went into the forest my group found a chest full of weapons. Knives, bows, arrows, swords, that kind of stuff. I figure they'd be useful for anyone who wants to use them for hunting or defense. I only need a few of these, so I'd be more than happy to share.

There's just one problem, though...

They're all pretty rusted, so right now they're unusable. The sword I normally use is ornamental so I'm not entirely sure how to fix rusted equipment.

Does anyone here know how to clean these?

not sure about cleaning but i do know youll need a whetstone to sharpen the blades after

actual whetstones are usually flat which makes them easier to use
a think they also might be a certain type of stone?
but a regular rock will still help

Why keep an ornamental sword?

I can take a look at the bows and arrows and see what I can do. As for the swords and knives, I'm afraid understand how to maintain a weapon but if it's too far gone it is outside my area of expertise.

Self-defense. I don't want to kill someone if I don't have to, so I've always used an ornamental sword instead. It's worked pretty well.

Oddly enough, the bows are actually in pretty good condition. The arrows are rusted, though. They don't seem beyond help, I don't think...

That is good at least. Have you been able to test the bows?

If you can tell me where to find you I can take a look. It's probably easier than asking you for every little detail.

Something like that, I guess? Well...not here, no. Back home I could use my friend's powers to protect myself and others if I needed to, but since it's just me here my sword skills are all I have.

Not a big deal though if I just run away from danger, right? [It's what Gramps always told him and Mikleo to do when they were younger.]

I don't have anything to test them with, but I did pull on the strings of both of them and they seem strong enough.

I can't tell for sure since I don't really have an eye for this, but they don't seem all that bad to me? Maybe one layer of rust?

The first step is easy. You're just going to want to clean it andget rid of as much rust as you can. Just water and soap will work. Might have to use something stronger and really get in there if it's real deep.

They'll still be really dull so you'll need different whetstones to sharpen them. You might need different kinds.

But that's just the blade. Are the handles and everything okay? Do you need to repalce those too?

Um... [Frankly he hadn't actually paid much attention to the handles. Weapon upkeep involves more than he thought it did!] They seem fine whenever I pick them up or handle them? I didn't notice anything odd on them, anyway.

Heat. Tap off the rust. Wash with soapy water and clean with metal scrubber. Dry. Repeat with vinegar and salt. Anything more you'll need a power tool.

If you let me I can handle the blades. It'll take time, but I'll get whichever ones are still usable back into shape for you.

I can take a look at your sword too if it's been awhile since it's been thoroughly tended to, though why you'd regularly use an ornamental sword is a concern.

Mm, my sword's a little scratched I guess, but it's still holding up well. You can look at it if you want, though.

I use it because I don't want to kill anything or anyone if I don't have to, so I use it for self-defense more than anything.

I'm not a professional by any stretch of the imagination but I know how to look after a blade that's supposed to keep me alive. I'll still take a look at yours too, but knowing what it's for there won't be much I can do for it.
