Despite having the temporary ability to do so, writing a way out of this place proved nigh on impossible. Not at all a surprise if I am honest with myself, it would have been almost too easy.

So it makes me wonder (that and a talk with someone else). If presented with the choice to go home would you go back or would you stay here? No judgement, simply a curiosity to pass the time.

Attention Chroma

This is going to be long. I'm sorry for that, but if I could keep everyone's attention until the end; this will require everyone's involvement.

It seems that everyone's been able to recover from last week's animal "mishap" without too much trouble. If anyone still needs help with repair or taking care of injuries be sure to reach out. We've got several skilled people who can assist you.

I'd like to offer a welcome to our newest residents. This must seem like a lot to you and I wish I could offer answers as to why it's happening. As much as I hate to say it last week wasn't even close to the worst we've endured in this place and that's something I'd like to address today.

For those of you that don't know me or my hex code, my name is Nyx Ulric. I'm one of the original arrivals from last year so you could consider me one of the veterans, to use a familiar term. We struggled a lot at first and I can safely say that we've been successful in building a functioning community with what we've had available. I'm proud of that, and invested in making sure we continue to grow as long as we're here.

By now everyone has noticed that, while the events of the past months haven't escalated on the surface, Chroma is steadily becoming a more unsafe environment. Our consequences for successful quests aren't always beneficial, and we're slowly being taken over by the forest no matter how much we've tried to keep them at bay. It doesn't help that cutting down the trees leads to some negative effects now.

We're stronger together and I propose that we buckle down on our defenses and make certain this curse or whatever that's inflicting this place doesn't take us down with it. Here's what I'd like to do:

-- Bring back town meetings. We need a place where we can share information or rewards we've individually discovered, and keep track of who's still here and build ideas to making this town better for everyone. If we consider the arrival of new residents as a new month, then we can start to properly schedule the year in a way most of us will be familiar with.

-- I'd like anyone with mapmaking skills to make several maps of the town with as much accuracy as possible. I want to post one right by the well for any newcomers that make their way out before we can get to them.

-- Update the well itself. We have a way for people to climb out, but if we can get light down there maintained every other month it will make things less jarring. I'd like to discuss possibly building something around it to protect it from weather as well.

-- Get anyone who's got repair experience together to shore up our perimeter. The treeline has been moving around the current walls, rather than busting through. There's a good chance if we can block off the majority of the gaps around town we can halt advancement and make it easier to defend ourselves from attack at the same time.

Flavo is the most open; we can use that zone to venture into the forest. It'll be easier to maintain the treeline there than trying to cover the whole town. We can get more materials from the buildings we've condemned. If we can't repair them we might as well dismantle them completely.

-- I'm also reinstating the defense teams, but I'm going to see about doing it a little differently. We need to get together to build up emergency evacuation plans in case of something like those dragons hits us again, and make sure there are clear paths through town so no one gets trapped.

I'll need volunteers, too, for sharing the various survival skills we've developed so far. Not just things like fighting, although anyone who wants to learn please speak up, but any kind of craft we've got. The more people who know how to build or repair or garden, things like that, the better a chance we'll have.

That's all for now. I'd like to set up a day in the next couple of weeks to get together at the town hall to go over this stuff in person. I'll be sure to keep you updated.

I hope this post finds everyone okay in the wake of these first attacks. This is probably the biggest thing we've ever had to defend against but don't think we're not ready.

There's a warehouse in Bluo that I was led to a couple months ago. It's reinforced and should provide suitable defense against these creatures while we figure out how to fend them off. There's already some food and water stored there. Anyone who can't fight them should take shelter, and anything important should be moved as soon as possible so that it can be protected.

I'll be helping anyone I can so let me know where you need me.

Ardyn Izunia here, at your service. It seems there are a lot here who have been brought in the same way I have, wet shoes and all. Why, I do believe there are none who came any other way (do feel free to speak up if that isn't the case).

I've been lucky enough to be granted a humble abode and not only that the opportunity to display a small pile of rocks I picked myself. A grand introduction to just how strange a place can be. I've decided to keep said rocks, they will make a great keepsake.

That being said.... People are not perfect and I am loathe to admit I fall under such a headline. Back in my own world there is (unfortunately) an ongoing war and I have done things that may not be considered good to some. Rest assured that in this place I will strive to be nothing but exemplary; should anyone need help with anything please don't hesitate to ask for assistance, I would be more than happy to help in any way I can.

PS: What is there to do around here?

So since we've all gotten back from the frozen palace I've decided that we need to think of some way to be prepared for such events in the future. Whatever is going on around here is steadily growing bigger, and we're critically unprepared for the unknown. It's pretty damn lucky we all got out of that place as good as we did.

I've been working on making an emergency kit just in case we find ourselves stranded or attacked without warning. It needs to be something to keep on us at all times, but it'll take some teamwork to make sure everyone has one.

Food isn't the biggest issue. Collectively we've been curing and storing supplies throughout the entire summer, so rations for a couple days are simple to provide to everyone who can eat them. A small weapon, too, in case we're stuck without ours, or our abilities.

For the season we have to be mindful of weather. We have a lot of animal skins, but we need a better way to insulate them so that we all have something to protect us from the elements. There's already been a severe drop in temperature, not even counting our vacation, so I can only assume it's going to get worse before we see springtime. These can also double as a wrap for the other supplies.

I haven't figured out how to guarantee a supply of water yet, and there's the matter of making it compact enough that carrying it around or sleeping with it won't be that irritating, and I know plenty of you have some experience in survival. I'm open to all suggestions to make sure every one of us is accounted for in a disaster.

On a second note. We need some kind of plan in case we get hit with a storm. The town is considerably spread out, and the chances of getting trapped in blizzard conditions is higher than I'm comfortable with. I propose we designate a shelter we can all go to when we need to bunker down and defend ourselves. It'll be easier to keep one well-stocked building warm than risk one of us get stuck without firewood and buried in ten feet of snow.

Before I close this: Have any of you figured out how to elf-proof your home? Those little bastards are persistent.

Hello everyone,

I have a simple question to ask: What sorts of traditions do you have back home centered around this time of year? What is your favorite?

There are many of us who are experiencing our first holiday away from home; so let's bring a bit of home to Chroma for the holidays, in whatever way we can! After everything we've been through, I believe we should take time to celebrate who and what is most important to us.

Yours,
Lux

Okay, so. I get that there's a good chance people who did this probably aren't going to want to confess to it, but sitting on information never helped anybody be a better team player so like...I'm just going to admit to it and if you did it and don't want to, that's fine.

Anyway. This is a question for people who did the quest last month about taking someone else's color. Stealing it, I guess. I did, which I realize makes me an incredibly shitty person, but apparently even the town had an opinion on it. I think, anyway.

After I did it I started having these dreams? Like nightmares. Of the person whose color I'd taken, walking away into the woods. I was chasing after them but I couldn't catch up, and they didn't hear me when I yelled for them, and then finally they just...vanished. I lost them in the woods.

So. Me and some people, we went into the woods. Because it was always the same path, in the dream. Same landmarks and everything, and I saw it over and over. And those same landmarks were actually in the woods, it turns out, ones I remembered well enough to follow in real life.

Anyway, some weird shit happened and I think...whoever used to live here, that's something that happened before. People going into the woods and disappearing. True love getting broken up and wrecked by...something or other. And not just one person. Like, a lot of people.

Point is there were really two things I was figuring on accomplishing here, which are:

1) The stuff I saw and dreamed about sounds a hell of a lot like the story that Mr. F. keeps posting to the forums every time we get a new round of quests and I don't think that's a coincidence.

2) Of the people who took someone else's color, did anybody take the color of someone designated the same color as them? I'm wondering because Mr. F's fairy tale says back in the day fraternization between different districts was a bad thing and I wonder if that includes "mixing" colors like stealing someone else's. Like, could a blue take blue with impunity, but if they took red or yellow they'd get whomped for it.

If you don't want to own up to #2, that's fine. Leave a note on the bulletin board in town and I'll check it every so often, or something. I just want to know because I think it's important.

After having been here for two months, I've come to realize that some things are not quite the same for me as they are back home.

Namely that my interactions with humans in my world are typically limited by the fact that I'm completely invisible to most. However, I have heard that not everyone here is human or might be unique. As of yet I haven't figured out why some are capable when they possess no resonance but I'm interested in finding out. Since I'm the first seraph to come from my world, it's a mystery I hope to solve.

Which leads me to a request, I'm curious in knowing just how many have the capability of seeing me. Attempting to do the quests with an invisible, silent partner can a hardship so I'd like to find out just how many people can see me or at least hear me.

I can be found at the green house in the Flavo District all evening, either you will see me or you will see a floating book. Perhaps something in between.

- Mikleo

[ As he said, Mikleo will be at the single green house among a hoard of yellow ones sitting on the front step with a single book in hand. Whether anyone can actually see him is up in the air. People are free to just stop by and action it up here. ]

Please complete these quests. If you do, there may be a reward awaiting you.

Once upon a time, there lived a young man in an azure district. While his family wanted for nothing in terms of wealth, the man's heart sought one most felt was beyond his reach. His heart's desire was a poor but comely man who hailed from the crimson district, and his beauty had already drawn several suitors from that same district to his side in the hopes of claiming his heart for their own.

The young man despaired, for he knew to approach his love whilst hailing from another color would be a fruitless effort indeed. Thankfully there was another, a true friend, a young woman of the brighter, sunnier district, who was there to offer her assistance. It was then that he was told of a legend passed down through her family: in the forest dwelt a miraculous hen whose feathers shimmered with every color of the rainbow. The one who obtained the hen and brought it back would achieve true love with whomever he gifted it to. But a warning accompanied the legend. If the hen did not come willingly, or if the seeker succumbed to temptation, a terrible curse would befall them.

Determined to acquire this hen, the young man entered the forest. As he walked deeper and deeper, the path grew more and more tangled, until he came to a split in the path. One path went left, clogged with bushes and brambles. The other beckoned right, golden flowers and gleaming gem-like rocks lining it.

The leaves of the trees rustled and sighed, and he thought he heard a voice, no more than a whisper, say, "No bond strengthens from an easy path."

The young man was then reminded that he would be tested, and chose the left path. As it appeared, he faced a difficult progression, and was becoming weary and parched when he glimpsed through the trees a clear spring where the water shone like diamonds. The path continued past it, but the man paused.

Again, the trees seemed to whisper to him, "No bond strengthens from a fickle heart that cannot commit."

The young man steeled himself and continued, his legs sore and bleeding from the brambles, until he entered a clearing. There, he beheld a beautiful hen with shimmering, colorful feathers. So gladdened by the sight was he that he did not heed the warning whisper of the trees this time, merely grabbing the hen and running back through the forest with it clasped to his breast.

The hen was presented to his love, and a marriage was arranged between the two of them nigh immediately.

But the forest was displeased, and thus laid a curse upon the young man and the entire town. From that day forward, the young man began to change. He found himself unable to care for his family. He found himself unable to understand why he had wished to give his heart to another.

And as his bonds weakened and broke and he failed to make new ones, he began to forget those around him. Eventually, he was last seen walking into the forest and was never heard from again.

But the forest appeared to have crept closer to the town, and the town itself began to lose the color it had treasured for so long. More and more of the townsfolk began to succumb to the curse that the young man had unleashed, and as more of them disappeared, the forest drew closer still.

Until there was no one left and the town was silent and drab.

To this day, the town waits for someone to break the curse, to restore color and to demonstrate once more the true strength of bonds.

THE END

[ He wants to address the losses. He wants to do something about them, but the guilt of them still eats into him: he'd been a wolf at the time, dangerous in a violent situation, and he'd been doing his best not to become a danger.

The problem with Superman as a violent beast is that he is more than well aware of exactly how fast and deadly he'd be without the mental barriers he puts in place not to be a danger. And keeping that from being unleashed on the town had been his priority.

But it still stings. All the same-]

I won't say much about everything that happened over the last few days. That said, I'd like to thank any and everyone who assisted in making and distributing the cure. As well as those who did all they could to defend the town. Suffice to say, you have my thanks and appreciation.

But as always, there's more to do so hopefully, here is where I can do my part.

It took a bit of processing, but I've managed to make some passable (if flavorless) toothpaste, washing soap for doing laundry, and soaks for strained of aching muscles.

For those who help medically and for those who are involved in our farming efforts, I'm happy to provide access to the rest of my store of epsom salts, and anyone is welcome to some of the baking soda if they need it. There are limited amounts
[ because both had involved a somewhat complicated chemical process that he'd managed using some hastily welded pots and pans scavenged from where he could find them, minerals found in the ground with his senses, heat and processing and pressure provided by his own eyes and hands... ] but I'm happy to give what I have to our efforts.

I was also looking at the possibility of introducing some sort of running water to the town, perhaps utilizing a water tower to produce the pressure necessary. Nothing as complex as what we're used to, no doubt, but maybe we can make it a little less difficult to get water for people.

And last but not least, I'm going to do soap classes, spinning classes, and weaving classes on
[ insert appropriate time and date here ] but let me know if you can't make it and we'll work something out.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be brighter.

Sincerely,
Clark Kent

Okay, so, a couple of things.

First off, probably useful for people to know right now: there's silver in them there hills. Forest, I mean. There's silver in the woods and you really have to look for it because it's buried, but it's out there. I found a ring in a chest, and I have a feeling given this place it's not the only one out there.

Second off is magic. I keep seeing people on the forum offering to use their talents to help make things better for everybody around here, so I guess I figure I should throw my figurative hat into the ring on that one, too. I was telling a guy recently that my magic is kind of like clay, and the spells I can do are like molds for it. Just because I've got molds for hearts, stars, and horseshoes right now doesn't mean I can't someday figure out how to make clovers and blue moons, too. It's just...working out how to do it, the first time.

Example: I've overheard enough people complaining about there not being any hair gel around that I went and figured out how to simulate it with magic. I don't need it myself but hey, trade me a favor and I'll do your hair for you, if it means that much to you. I'm a helper.

But yeah, I figure if I can do that, then maybe I can do other stuff, too. Things people think the town needs — above and beyond just putting on music for the local prom, I mean. So I'm taking ideas, if you've got them. I can't make any promises, but...you know, I want to help. Even if it's just really random, stupid little conveniences. Like maybe I can enchant a bathtub to heat the water you put in it or something, I don't know. I'm good at tricks like that, it's kind of what I do.

Third thing, and this is kind of out there but I just wanted to see if anybody else has been having thoughts like this too. Does it ever seem as though this town is, like...some kind of entity in its own right? Like a thing with a will of its own?

Hey there, I don't think I've ever properly introduced myself here. I'm Sorey. Um, sorry if this is hard to read. [Not like he had any control over that or anything.]

Um, so, a while back when we went into the forest my group found a chest full of weapons. Knives, bows, arrows, swords, that kind of stuff. I figure they'd be useful for anyone who wants to use them for hunting or defense. I only need a few of these, so I'd be more than happy to share.

There's just one problem, though...

They're all pretty rusted, so right now they're unusable. The sword I normally use is ornamental so I'm not entirely sure how to fix rusted equipment.

[If this were face to face, he'd be rubbing the back of his neck right about here.]

Does anyone here know how to clean these?

anyway i'm sorta curious about something. do a lot of people here come from worlds where magic is really commonplace? like, magic's deffs a thing where i come from but not a lot of PEOPLE have it, you know what i mean? it's in the environment and of course the astrals are magic and some wildlife and monsters have it but it's restricted to only a couple important bloodlines in humans, them and the people they share it with.

you don't have to answer if it's personal and you're like a magical vigilante with a double life or something, i just sort of wanted a sense of where everybody's at since it's so weird to me to see so many people talking about or using magic powers so casually. not bad weird!! just weird.

This is Nyx Ulric.

Guren got a hold of me to discuss Chroma's newly minted defense team and it appears that for right now I'm getting together with a group of you to cover the Flavo district. He said he already let everyone else know their teams so that cuts out me having to go door to door trying to convince people to follow me through the woods.

[Humor probably doesn't translate through text very well, but he wants to know what kind of people he's dealing with before he starts expecting them to follow his orders. Half the team don't even know him yet, much less have reason to trust him.

Onto business.]

Obviously we need to familiarize ourselves with each other's userhex, as well as get together to figure out how we're going to go about this. We're a small group, and while the districts aren't very big it's enough that if something happens seven of us might be unable to cover everything we need to. To offset this I propose we learn as much as we can about each other and Flavo itself in order to move as a unit comfortably in the space we're protecting.

If you guys could give a rundown of what skills you're bringing to the table I can start figuring out where to assign tasks.

My dear kidnapped kin,

This is Lupin, once again, along with monsieur Dave. You may recall my mentioning that the town we find ourselves in has yet to be properly named; my young friend here suggested that we hold a poll and democratically decide on a name for it here. If you care to participate, we can finally have a name for our little prison here.

anyway we have for you a collection of potential names in nonalphabetical random order
if you have a write in ill edit it into the post after
im also gonna keep track of who voted for what and how many votes a thing has
you can change your vote if you want or lobby ppl to change theirs but whichever has the most votes by friday will be what at least lupin and i use to call this place
and like maybe all of you if you abide by the rules of democracy
haha almost typoed that democrazy
anyway
without further ado here we go:

chroma 6 (dave, okuyasu, ochako, izuku, maribelle, shouto)
sunrise vale 4 (lupin, noctis, akira, yuuya)
deepwell 2 (emma, minato)
senkolora 2 (kyrie, caramia)
spero 1 (tellus)
garbageville 1 (vriska)
purgatory 1 (dextera)
grayport 0
ravus 0
grayton 0

if you dont participate absolutely nothing will happen to you except you will miss out on the warm fuzzy feelings of democratic domesticity and who really wants that
also maybe well make a town sign come friday to reveal the winner
anyway thanks for listening have at it

Thank you,
Lupin

I've noticed that books have writing in them again, which means the library should be back to it's original form. It'll be more useful to everyone if it's organized and has librarians in charge of maintaining it. I'm used to doing work like that, so I don't mind organizing it, but it might be more time efficient to ask if there are others with the skills to help.

Firstly, we should familiarize ourselves with the restored materials. I've only been able to find useless books about talking animals so far, but one of you must have found something other than that by now. It would take years for me to read everything by myself, so if you could summarize any books you've found and return them to the library, you would save us all some time.

Secondly, has anyone considered keeping record of what's happening here? We should start creating archives for future reference now that we're able to. That's assuming we'll be stuck here for however much longer. There are other things like records of the plants and animals we come across that the library would benefit from as well, if you have any. We should be keeping all information like this in one place.

If you have other things in mind the library should have, or are familiar with any of the texts you find, let me know. I'd like to start working on this as soon as possible.

Hi, this is Joshua.

After we did one of the quests, Estelle and I found a crate full of live chickens in our house. We figured that a steady supply of eggs is probably going to be more useful in the long run than a few meals' worth of meat, so we're working on getting them settled in here.

[ Also, let's be real, eating them just seemed too mean after the chocobos decided these were clearly their tiny adopted offspring. ]

I'm not sure what the yield is going to look like yet, so we haven't figured out how much we'll have to share, or if they're even going to taste like anything yet. But in the meantime, while I think we've figured out how to get the yard fenced in well enough to prevent any escape artists, if you happen to see any of them wandering loose, we'd appreciate it if you could bring them back or let us know so we can collect them.

Hello, this is Emma.
I've noticed that everyone is offering up really great ideas like meetings and clinics and I wanted to help out as well. I'll leave the the major stuff to the specialists but I figured out one way.

Sewing!
We've been here for a while now and I know some people have been struggling with the clothes we've found around town. Making something from scratch might be hard but I can definitely work with what's already here. I had to fix clothes all the time when the little ones tore something or hit growth spurts.
So if you want something hemmed or altered I can help with that!
Of course, everything is going to have to be gray still. But that's better than wearing the same thing all the time!

If anyone knows how to sew I would welcome the help, and would definitely want to learn more advance techniques.

Hey. So...

...

Question for anyone. Or for everyone I guess.

How sure are you that you're still alive? Back where you're from I mean.

Like on a scale from 1 to 10. Where 1 is "I definitely died" and 10 is "I'm definitely still alive" and everything in between.

Thanks in advance. I know it's a weird question. I just... I gotta know.

[He's asked some folks, but the results so far are mixed. And Keith needs to figure out one way or another if this is just some weird unexpected afterlife, and he's at a solid 2.5 on his own scale so he's wondering.]
