Attention Chroma
This is going to be long. I'm sorry for that, but if I could keep everyone's attention until the end; this will require everyone's involvement.
It seems that everyone's been able to recover from last week's animal "mishap" without too much trouble. If anyone still needs help with repair or taking care of injuries be sure to reach out. We've got several skilled people who can assist you.
I'd like to offer a welcome to our newest residents. This must seem like a lot to you and I wish I could offer answers as to why it's happening. As much as I hate to say it last week wasn't even close to the worst we've endured in this place and that's something I'd like to address today.
For those of you that don't know me or my hex code, my name is Nyx Ulric. I'm one of the original arrivals from last year so you could consider me one of the veterans, to use a familiar term. We struggled a lot at first and I can safely say that we've been successful in building a functioning community with what we've had available. I'm proud of that, and invested in making sure we continue to grow as long as we're here.
By now everyone has noticed that, while the events of the past months haven't escalated on the surface, Chroma is steadily becoming a more unsafe environment. Our consequences for successful quests aren't always beneficial, and we're slowly being taken over by the forest no matter how much we've tried to keep them at bay. It doesn't help that cutting down the trees leads to some negative effects now.
We're stronger together and I propose that we buckle down on our defenses and make certain this curse or whatever that's inflicting this place doesn't take us down with it. Here's what I'd like to do:
-- Bring back town meetings. We need a place where we can share information or rewards we've individually discovered, and keep track of who's still here and build ideas to making this town better for everyone. If we consider the arrival of new residents as a new month, then we can start to properly schedule the year in a way most of us will be familiar with.
-- I'd like anyone with mapmaking skills to make several maps of the town with as much accuracy as possible. I want to post one right by the well for any newcomers that make their way out before we can get to them.
-- Update the well itself. We have a way for people to climb out, but if we can get light down there maintained every other month it will make things less jarring. I'd like to discuss possibly building something around it to protect it from weather as well.
-- Get anyone who's got repair experience together to shore up our perimeter. The treeline has been moving around the current walls, rather than busting through. There's a good chance if we can block off the majority of the gaps around town we can halt advancement and make it easier to defend ourselves from attack at the same time.
Flavo is the most open; we can use that zone to venture into the forest. It'll be easier to maintain the treeline there than trying to cover the whole town. We can get more materials from the buildings we've condemned. If we can't repair them we might as well dismantle them completely.
-- I'm also reinstating the defense teams, but I'm going to see about doing it a little differently. We need to get together to build up emergency evacuation plans in case of something like those dragons hits us again, and make sure there are clear paths through town so no one gets trapped.
I'll need volunteers, too, for sharing the various survival skills we've developed so far. Not just things like fighting, although anyone who wants to learn please speak up, but any kind of craft we've got. The more people who know how to build or repair or garden, things like that, the better a chance we'll have.
That's all for now. I'd like to set up a day in the next couple of weeks to get together at the town hall to go over this stuff in person. I'll be sure to keep you updated.

I would be glad to assist with any of the things you've proposed here, but I would probably be the most helpful with guarding the forests in Flavo and joining a defense team. I'm a former member of the Hylian Royal Guard, so I am proficient with swords, greatswords, maces and polearms, but my specialty is archery.

Would you be willing to teach those skills to others? You have a broad range and I, for one, would be interested in learning.

I am Archer.
My combat ability is the only one worth noting in this case, but I am confident that I can be useful in that regard.
I too am eager to form more reliable defensive measures. Particularly as our numbers are dwindling.
[ The Defense Force is quite the harsh teacher in that regard. ]

I'm afraid I let myself become complacent as well. Concerned more with my own demons than making sure we were adjusting our defenses to meet the threats.
Anyone willing to fight are welcome. What kind of combat are you suited for?

Leave the heavy lifting to me, Nyx-dono.
I will bend all my energy towards the wall repairs you have recommended.
Would you have me start on the far south-western edge in Bluo and work my way towards Ruga first?
no subject
If it's acceptable then I'm going to be depending on you a lot. There are things I can't do anymore, which still hurts, but I trust you and your skills implicitly.
Starting in Bluo is a good strategy, since there's less ground to cover. For right now I want to give everyone the chance to come up with methods to strengthen the barricades or ideas to bring up at the meeting. We need to be of one mind on this or else we're going to be walking all over each other.
But if you've got the time, there are probably repairs on the existing buildings that could be strengthened, and I'm sure we'll have to cut back the tree line again before we start. I could use the company.

I am referred to as Blue Saber.
I am willing to serve as any type of labor you need, but I am especially interested in matters related to defense. My strength is in swordsmanship.
Regarding the town's perimeter, I have a proposition. Some would call it drastic, but perhaps it would be a worthy topic of discussion at the town hall meeting to come.

I am recently arrived, but I would be glad to volunteer in any way. I can wield a pole arm, but I grew up on a farm, and I learned how to sew and spin when I was young.
Since you've been here for a time, may I ask about the state of the forest? Is there any way to find out why the forest is behaving that way? Would it serve any to explore deeper within it?

Those would be welcome skills to have more of. The clothes here aren't terrible, but they're not in the best condition after everything that's been happening. I don't know how many other people know how to repair them beyond half-assed patches.
[He's making a dig at himself here.]
It's some kind of curse, we've figured that much. The quest post on the forum has been telling us a story that I think explains what happened to turn this place into a ghost town. We can explore deeper, but it changes frequently. I don't know why. Someone else might have more answers. That's why I'd like to have more town meetings.

Just chiming in to say that Nyx knows what he's doing when it comes to defending a place, for those who haven't had a year and change to get to know him. Been fighting by his side for nearly a decade.
And he'll listen to any good ideas you all might have, too.
[ And after that she gets up to go bump shoulders with the man himself. ]
Good luck to us all, hero.

We’re gonna need something more than luck, admittedly. There’s hope, a lot of it. There are a lot of people here I’d trust with my life.
[Hesitant silence.]

Not gonna let you down.

I’m afraid I’m of little help here, but you can trust that Flavo will stay protected under my watch in the meantime.
no subject
I can do this, and it's important enough to throw everything I've got at it.
I'll trust you with that. I'm sure you'll be able to assist in other ways, too. Soon as we get momentum going.

I haven't been in this place for very long, but I've seen enough to know that I can't afford to stay on the sidelines. I'll help in any way that I can.

We actually haven't had very many firearms here, though I'm sure it's something a lot of us are probably familiar with. How is the situation with your ammo? Is it limited, or some kind of magic?
