This is Lt. Colonel Guren Ichinose of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army. I don't expect that to mean anything to any of you, but if it can make anyone take me a little more seriously, then I'll take it.

I'm sure you all saw the illustration of those apparent shadow monsters. If there are dangers, it means we should be ready for them, and somehow I've run into a surprising few people who have enough experience in combat. Some of them don't have any at all.

Would any of you be interested in learning how to fight? To defend yourselves? What about the capable out there— are you willing to teach, or spar to improve yourselves? Let me know, and I can set something up for regular practicing.

(OOC: Basically, I thought it might be fun to encourage more random CR with both characters who would like to learn how to fight, and characters who already know how and are willing to teach or spar! If there's enough interest, I can throw up an ooc post with match up sort of things that can provide a semi-regular chance for new CR (via threading or handwaving). Let me know in your tag, or via PM if your character won't tag the post!

Edit: I put up an ooc sign up! Please remember to sign up there if you'd like your character to be included in some fighting (and friendship) styled pair ups!)

[He can adsorb the magical attacks? That is quite an interesting blade. Well, he should test it as much as possible, after all. The man must be strong, even if he is arrogant pot meet kettle. The dragon disappears behind him as he glows again.]

I'll switch Personas and try different attacks. I leave it to you, Genbu.

[The dragon is replaced by a giant turtle that hovers above him.]

[The head and tail move upwards as it seems to be silently calling upon something. The ground begins to shake violently before pieces of rock separate from the ground, reforming into a gigantic, large rock above the other and falling at an increased speed towards him.]

So they're separate species altogether?

That's sort of ominous. What was the catastrophe?

[Oh. There's a tiny pause before she replies to that. Maybe her teasing was a bit premature.]

[Oooh, what is that? These are like... chimeras? Or something different? Guren grips his blade, a grin forming onto his face as the ground shakes. He can't exactly swallow rocks with his sword, but what he can do is—

Slice them apart. A kanata shouldn't be able to do that, but his is emanating some kind of energy. A dark energy, from all of him. He draws his sword across in rapid swipes, and the remaining pieces of boulder crash to the sides.]

What are those things you're using? You can control them?

Yeah.

A virus that wiped out 90% of the human population. After that, the Horsemen of the Apocalypse began to appear. They're monsters that seek out humans to kill them. Since humans are like livestock to vampires, they had to care about so few remaining. They began trying to gather up the children who weren't affected by the virus, keeping them captive to keep them safe from the horsemen but available for them like walking blood bags.

They'll be able to help. Just give it time.

[But, he will help her in the in between... See what she already knows about taking on people bigger than her! He's got a feeling it's plenty.]

To explain it in simplistic terms - we all wear masks to face everyday life. Personas grant me the ability to use those aspects of myself in physical form. The Gods and Demons that I harbor...

[This time it is not a creature, but a human-like deity that springs from his mind, standing over twice his height behind him. It stands, one hand leaning on its side, the other spread open, waiting for Nanjo's command.]

[The ice spell freezes the air around his target making his breath visible, before giant pieces of ice fall from the sky, piercing the ground everywhere where they land around him before exploding like ice bombs.]

I'm not against teamwork. I'm sort of all for it. And you're right. There are probably some people with skills that could be the deciding factor in a fight. But sometimes throwing more people at something just ends up hurting more people. And unfortunately we don't even know what or where might be dangerous until it turns out to be, in this place. It's like a minefield.

To protect those I care about. I don't want to lose anyone else.

[The commander side of him wants to argue. To discuss and share knowledge— that life isn't just like some shogi board. Keith has very important points, but Guren has been through all of them, and his opinion has shifted in very different ways. There were times when fewer people were necessary... that's right. But he's just not sure that was one of them.

However, the truth is he doesn't know a thing about how it went down, even with having it explained to him, so he can't argue to begin with. It all depends on the moment, on the reasoning, on what's going on.]

Good thing there wasn't a body count. Just don't go throwing yourselves out there like you're heroes for dying. As long as you focus on living on top of keeping everyone around you safe, it's fine.

[A good motive. But before he says that, he has to ask.]

That's horrible! What happened to the Horsemen of the Apocalypse? Were they stopped?

What the vampires are doing to the children isn't right either.

No. No matter how many are killed, they keep appearing. The trumpets of the apocalypse won't stop sounding to summon them.

You're right. But that's why we're all trying to regain what we can.

They come back after they've been killed???

[It's like boss monster respawns in an MMORPG, but in real life....respawns that no one actually wants.]

I'm sorry about what happened to your world, Ichinose-san.

[ Yata was hesitant before, but now he's scowling and steps into the room properly. ]

That sword really has a demon in it?

[ It looks just like a normal katana to him. ]

New ones appear, more like.

You don't have to apologize, anyway. You wanted to know. That's all. It's been 8 years.

[So "he's over it"... or that's the impression he wants to leave.]

[Guren eyes him evenly, his hand drifting to touch the handle of his own blade.]

Yeah, it does. You don't believe me?

I can't decide if that's worse or not. Either way it's bad news. What was that about the trumpets, though?

8 years isn't that long ago. [For a disaster of that scale, especially.] How have the humans been holding up?

Dying is nothing heroic; I know that one pretty well.

[Sure he's currently convinced he's either dead already or destined to die a few seconds after he winds up back where he belongs, but he'll leave that unsaid. He's kind of done thinking about that. While he's here, he's alive. He can do something about whats going on here. That's what counts.]

But I'm also not going to back down just because something is dangerous. I'll admit I don't always weigh all my options before jumping in though. I'm working on that.

[Ah. He can't change the air going cold around him, and let breathes out a laugh with a puff of visible air. He does the same with the ice as the rocks, cutting at them— but the explosions leave much more of a mess, and he doesn't bother jumping back or away.

Whatever damage he might have taken from the explosions is gone by the time the dust (and ice?) clears, thanks to his own regeneration. But Guren is laughing again, brushing off his uniform with his free hand.]

Come on, isn't it cold enough out here? That one was cheap. [It wasn't really cheap at all, but he's in the mood to joke.]

I think I've seen enough, but I don't know if I understand. What's this one supposed to be?

[The trumpets... That's a long discussion he doesn't feel like he needs to or should have here, so he pointedly ignores the question.]

Humans are stronger than everyone is willing to admit. We may be weaker than monsters and vampires without cursed gear, but our willpower lets us survive despite that.
