This is Lt. Colonel Guren Ichinose of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army. I don't expect that to mean anything to any of you, but if it can make anyone take me a little more seriously, then I'll take it.
I'm sure you all saw the illustration of those apparent shadow monsters. If there are dangers, it means we should be ready for them, and somehow I've run into a surprising few people who have enough experience in combat. Some of them don't have any at all.
Would any of you be interested in learning how to fight? To defend yourselves? What about the capable out there— are you willing to teach, or spar to improve yourselves? Let me know, and I can set something up for regular practicing.
That's all.
(OOC:Basically, I thought it might be fun to encourage more random CR with both characters who would like to learn how to fight, and characters who already know how and are willing to teach or spar! If there's enough interest, I can throw up an ooc post with match up sort of things that can provide a semi-regular chance for new CR (via threading or handwaving). Let me know in your tag, or via PM if your character won't tag the post!
Edit: I put up an ooc sign up! Please remember to sign up there if you'd like your character to be included in some fighting (and friendship) styled pair ups!)

[ Guren!! His voice raises without looking up from his laptop. ] Say what you’re thinking, already.
no subject
Don't invite someone over if you're not ready for them, then.
[ God.
... right, he came here to ask something. ]
That sword really has a demon in it?
[ It looks just like a normal katana to him. ]
no subject
Yeah, it does. You don't believe me?
no subject
[ He has no reason to doubt Guren, even if he's a jerk sometimes. ]
You just seem normal. Demon swords are all supposed to be evil or cursed or something, right?
no subject
[Okay, Guren gives a short laugh at that, though he won't say why.] I am normal. Cursed gear is reliant on spells that restrict the demon sealed inside. As long as I control myself in how much power I ask from the demon, I stay in control. That's how humans are able to use demons.
no subject
[ Of course he looks normal. What sort of dumbass question is that?
Also, that explanation sounds... risky. ]
So if you take so much the demon gets out of control?
no subject
[Sure, Guren. He doesn't stand up or anything, but he does glance to his sword again. It's resting against the wall next to where he's sitting.]
Yeah, something like that. The only reason a demon agrees to grant a human power is the chance that they can get their own freedom. The demon is restricted, but I can loosen that restriction by asking for more power.
[He's trying to summarize this as simply as possible.] Too much power, and you lose your humanity.
no subject
So that could happen to you one day? Losing your humanity?
[ He sounds a little worried, honestly. ]
no subject
[He blows it off quickly. So very quickly... And glances back down at his laptop.]
I'm in complete control at all times. There's a drug I take that helps with that.
no subject
Uh-huh? And what happens when you run out of the drug?
no subject
Nothing. The drug just helps me take extra power. [He'll say anything to get worry away from him.]
no subject
... Right. So what happens if you do lose control?
no subject
If someone were to lose control completely, they'd become a demon themselves and try to kill humans. [Hmm, but he won't address that whole namanari thing at all.]
no subject
How do you fix you if it gets that bad?
no subject
[Isn't that pleasant? He glances back down at his laptop.] Any other questions?
no subject
Wha-- that's it?! You might just go crazy one day and the only thing we can do is kill you?
no subject
[Well, he already appointed One Person to worry about making sure he doesn't go nuts and killing him if he does, so there's no need to worry anyone else!!]

Even if something did happen... [ His thumb loosens the blade from its sheathe, and because he’s an ass, the room begins to fill with demonic energy. Dark, intimidating, enough that it’ll make Yata pass out if he isn’t strong willed enough, or doesn’t have any psychic resistance. ]
A weak brat like you wouldn’t be able to do anything about it.
[ Is this how you get someone not to worry? No... but he seems very in control right now. ]
no subject
Yata's expression has just enough time to go from angry to shocked before... whatever that is (hair? it looks like hair. gross) hits him and he suddenly can't think of anything except how overwhelming and terrifying this is.
He's not quite aware of his own actions and reaches out blindly, grabbing hold of the door frame and doubling over slightly. It seems like he doesn't quite manage to catch whatever Guren's saying - though even if he does, when he finally looks up again he doesn't acknowledge it. ]
That's what a demon's like...?
[ He looks and sounds pretty winded, like he just ran a mile. But hey, at least he's standing. ]
no subject
[He's definitely noting the way that Yata can handle that, eyes focusing in on how he doubled over, how much he needs to lean on that frame, and so on. Not bad.]
