This is Lt. Colonel Guren Ichinose of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army. I don't expect that to mean anything to any of you, but if it can make anyone take me a little more seriously, then I'll take it.

I'm sure you all saw the illustration of those apparent shadow monsters. If there are dangers, it means we should be ready for them, and somehow I've run into a surprising few people who have enough experience in combat. Some of them don't have any at all.

Would any of you be interested in learning how to fight? To defend yourselves? What about the capable out there— are you willing to teach, or spar to improve yourselves? Let me know, and I can set something up for regular practicing.

(OOC: Basically, I thought it might be fun to encourage more random CR with both characters who would like to learn how to fight, and characters who already know how and are willing to teach or spar! If there's enough interest, I can throw up an ooc post with match up sort of things that can provide a semi-regular chance for new CR (via threading or handwaving). Let me know in your tag, or via PM if your character won't tag the post!

He beat me to it.

The closest thing I have is my contract with my demon. By calling on it, I can borrow as much power as I need from it, as long as I don’t let myself fall completely to desire and other emotions.

That's like him too. He's underselling himself. I've seen him shatter a boulder with one kick and ice with a flick of his finger.

Seems dangerous. How'd the contact process get started?

Maybe I should test him myself.

The process... for a black demon series weapon like mine, after I determine someone can handle the test with the lowest risk of death, I take them to the ceremony room and have them step into the circle of whatever weapons speaks to them. When they grab it, it starts a mental battle of power between the demon and human. If the demon wins, the human turns into a demon themself and goes mad trying to kill humans. If the human wins, they gain access to that power and have to make sure they don’t allow desire to overwhelm them.

[ His was a very special case and he already had a demon in his heart before this? One of his demons is mia? It’s unclear. ]

If you want an accurate read on his power, you'll have to.

That's more dangerous than I was expecting. Things must be dire if that's considered a reasonable option.

They’re dire. Only one tenth of the human population is left.

What happened?

A virus wiped out everyone over a certain age.

[glaciers]

Was it a natural pathogen? Usually those things target the weak, people who are very old or young.

But ten percent is such a small number of survivors.

It was man-made. The virus was a punishment for humanity’s sins. The number of survivors was purposeful. An apocalypse.

Who wanted to wipe out their own species? Or is who made it unknown?

[swordfucker]

The details are a little more complex than what I can say, but it was an act of God. Monsters began to appear shortly after and still do to this day.

It was. I still don't know everything myself, so don't think too hard on it. The point is, most humans died, and now we're struggling to take the world back.

And your home is willing to try to use demons to fight the monsters.
Extreme measures for extreme times.

Exactly. The world had been twisted like this long before the catastrophe, but situations like this bring it out. Everything becomes extreme.
