[Until she got home and it was just her and Shiho, she hadn't even realized that they'd been gone so long. Or well, she learned afterwards that Shiho did know but hadn't told any of them as she navigated them all home in a way that avoided everyone patrolling the harbour. Then Shiho told her when they were back and well, as much as she wanted to just go to sleep after everything she had to at least let everyone know they were fine.]

this is kaoru. me, shiho, midoriya-kun and ~~ei-chan~~ eijirou all made it back okay. i'm sorry if we worried anyone. i didn't think we'd be gone this long.

so anyway...there are monsters under the water too. and it turns out if you try to explore underwater the way we did when we went into the forest it does that creepy thing where it makes it so you can't see anything around you.

except there's no fog. because you don't get fog underwater! it just turns pitch black.

we ended up being kidnapped by these bootleg mermaids who don't understand that housework should be done regularly so they don't end up with a HUGE backlog of chores. i guess they did make it so we could breathe, but like, they're still kidnappers! and ugly! and terrible home-makers!

2/10 for hospitality, would not recommend for marriage.

anyway, we ended up back on the beach after we were finished and we have these neat pendants!

funny how this place keeps giving us clothing and accessories...but a lot of it is pretty ugly. if someone wore all of it together...i can't even imagine how that would look. it might be worse than the clothes we found in this place and i didn't realize that was even possible!

well, i guessed we'd find monsters. that's why i brought midoriya-kun and ei-chan with us.

i wanted to see if we could make it to the bottom of the water. shiho was apprenticed to a seafloor specialist so i thought maybe if we could get that deep then she could find some kind of information!

[If that sounds like a lie it is, at least partly. It was because Shiho was a psychometer and if they could get her to touch the sea floor she might be able to read something from it.

But, you know. Shiho's power is a secret.]

i'm glad we made it all back too. when we got separated i was really worried about the others.

[ God, these freaking kids. They're absolute morons any yet she can't help but admire their initiative. That's the one thing that Selina's finding she likes about this town: everyone working together, searching for answers, trying to make this all work. ]

So. I have to ask: what kind of chores did they make you do?

[They probably are morons. That was why Kaoru and her team had a supervisor...though he's not here. Alas.]

midoriya-kun and i had to polish a whole pile of silverware. there was like, thousands! [She exaggerates. It was just 500.] and we had to do their laundry too!

i think shiho mentioned something about weeds and feeding some kind of pet?

either way, i kind of understand how minamoto felt when he had to clean up after us all the time when we were kids.

[Technically, she was still a kid but like. Sixteen year olds do like to think of themselves as close to being grown ups.]

The weirdo fish-people had silverware and laundry? Weeds to pull? The pet thing isn't quite as surprising, but man. This place just keeps getting weirder.

Are they just hording clothing for no reason? Where did they even get the clothes? Were they anything like the leftovers lying around town?

honestly? i have no idea.

it could be just as likely that there's no reason. the last time everyone joined in to investigate the forest, my group was attacked by banshees, right? but according to shiho it was like they were just put there. like someone didn't want us to go further?

she couldn't figure out if it was the same with these bootleg mermaids [Since she couldn't touch them.] but since almost nothing about them makes sense it seems likely, you know?

See, this is why I don't normally mess with this sort of thing. The magic nonsense? The way this town works? I like being grounded in reality.

i mean. i'm sort of used to weird things happening, but this place definitely takes it to a new level.

at least psychic powers have a scientific explanation even if i didn't always understood when minamoto explained it.

That seems to be a theme around here. I haven't spoken to too many people who weren't at least familiar with strange and occasionally unexplainable. Helpful when things get crazy, at least.

there was a girl before who totally freaked out when i tried to tell her i had psychic powers. but yeah. in general people seem to find these things very normal?

Sadly, some people are just wired that way. Fear what you don't understand and all that nonsense. As long as you're responsible with your abilities and aren't planning to use them against anyone I know or care about, you and I are fine. For what it's worth.

There could be a reason, though. Or it could just be as simple as there being more magic and mystery in the multiverse than we might have imagined.

esp is a power that brings happiness. that is why i was given these powers, i'm sure of it. that's why you don't have to worry! i won't do anything bad with them. and i know if i keep doing that, eventually even the people who are scared will learn to stop being afraid too!

ugh. i wish we could just get a straight answer for once! why can't we get that for a quest reward? all this guessing is giving me a headache...
