[Well, it took Ginko awhile to find the laptop and a bit longer to figure out how to use it, but eventually he managed, so here's a brand new color handle on the forum.]
hello
i'm not entirely certain i am doing this correctly
but if other people can see this, my name is ginko
i had a question, for anyone who cares to answer
have you ever heard of creatures called mushi?
some of the phenomena i have heard about in this town bear similarities with ones from my own home, ones that are caused by these beings
i would be curious to know if they ring familiar to anyone else
in that vein, i'd like to investigate the surrounding forest, but i've been warned against doing so alone
if anyone should care to accompany me, i would appreciate it
finally, i was told i should speak with a midoriya and a maya amano for further details about our situation
if anyone knows where i can find them, or how best to contact them, please let me know
thank you

That's me! Midoriya. What did you need to know?
Also, can I ask you about mushi, too? I haven't heard of them, but if they cause similar trouble in your world, it's a good idea to have a record of them just in case!
no subject
i'm most interested in the phenomena surrounding the color changes, however
someone mentioned an incident in which the people in this town began losing color themselves, for instance
it sounded like a nontypical occurrence
as for mushi, they are beings that share the natural world along with plants, animals, fungi, and microorganisms
they can share similarities with any one of these, or even more than one type
but they are more primal than any of them
at the very heart of all life itself, in a sense
no subject
I'm guessing they were talking about the time the shadows attacked us in town. The thing about color here is that it seems to be tied to an object or living thing's very essence, not just the outward appearance. When we lost color that one time, the more we more, the more tired we felt.
no subject
the more information i can get, the better
so it was like you were losing your own life force?
[That's. Fascinating? Vaguely horrifying, but when you've been a mushi-shi as long as Ginko has, you get kind of desensitized to these things.]
and yet the color returns to things when you perform certain types of tasks...
i wonder if there is a kind of mushi in this place that's absorbing these essences, in the absence of whatever it usually uses as sustenance
no subject
How can you tell if there's mushi or not? Is there any way to look for them?
no subject
[h u h. problems like that don't tend to resolve themselves, in ginko's experience, but it does happen sometimes. maybe he can look into it later.]
as for the mushi, i do intend to literally look for them
that's why i want to go into the forest
[There aren't any in the town, which is...odd given that they're surrounded by forest, which tends to mean the soil is rich. But he has a feeling whatever caused the lack of mushi also caused the lack of color. There must be some sort of natural imbalance that can be traced there, he's sure.
He could try to attract them using kouki, but that feels like ... a waste, given the limited quantity he has on him. Maybe if he's exhausted all other options he'll consider using a small portion of it.]
no subject
If you need someone to go into the forest with you, I don't mind volunteering. Do you know how to defend yourself? There's a high chance we'll run into some monsters while you're in there.
no subject
i wouldn't want to put too many of you at risk or waste your time if this comes to nothing
no subject
Would you mind keeping me updated if you find anything while you're in there?
no subject
thank you again for your time, midoriya-san
#FFFF4D
I've never heard of them specifically, but what sort of phenomena do they cause?
no subject
they are as much a part of nature as any other living thing, and as such some are crucial to the balance of nature -- phenomena such as the rain and the turning of the seasons
others, however, are more troublesome
there are mushi that can enter a person's mind and manifest what's there as reality
others that can change the nature of life it comes into contact with
i've even seen mushi that connected individuals to entirely different dimensions
[One of those cases even involved a girl who had fallen into a well. That would be a hell of a coincidence, he thinks.]
no subject
[He's learned this is true for a number of different worlds.]
So, you think some of these mushi came here with you?
no subject
hm...what are seraphim?
perhaps they are different names for the same manner of lifeform
[After all, for all his wandering, he's never left Japan.]
typically, strange occurrences like our current circumstances are connected to mushi
some imbalance in nature, generally
no subject
I've always had high resonance, so I've been able to interact with seraphim since I was little. My best friend is one, actually.
[Sorry, he tends to gush about subjects he knows a lot about.]
Hm...that sounds kinda like malevolence. Malevolence in my world is something like an imbalance too. [That's a light way of putting it.]
I've actually sensed malevolence in this town for a while...maybe that's what you're picking up?
#9b5148
Mushi? I've never heard of them. Are they magic? It's the only thing I can think of that can explaint his place.
I've been to the fores t a couple of times. Not very deep, though. I can keep you company if you'd like!
no subject
no
they are living things, much like any other
but it is true they only partly belong to our reality
[it's cute how he says "our" like he still thinks he's in his own world, ha ha ha]
i would appreciate that
i should warn you in advance that i would not be able to fight, if danger presented itself
is that alright?
no subject
Not ringing anything, sorry!
Can you run? It's okay if you can't fight as long as you can run when I tell you too.
no subject
most are unable to perceive them
i can run, yes
in that case, i'd be happy to take you up on your offer
#FFCCCC
I have not heard of "Mushi," no, but I would be in your debt if you could elaborate.
Memorizing new information is my purpose, so fulfilling it would make me quite happy.
no subject
you needn't consider it a debt
i would be happy to tell you about mushi
but perhaps you can give me your name, in exchange?
no subject
My name is Eliot Durant. I'm a Living Library.
I'll be happy to be of service in exchange, should you desire any information.
no subject
[What a fascinating concept. It actually does sound a lot like what Tanyuu does, memorizing what goes into each and every volume in the archives so that she would be able to recopy it should the paper start to decay enough to risk releasing the pieces of Forbidden Mushi sealed inside.]
that sounds like quite a duty
is it something passed down in your family or village, or did you choose to pursue this yourself?
as for mushi, like i told midoriya-san above, they are among the living creatures that populate the earth
close to the heart of life itself, and as such their existences are ambiguous
many people cannot perceive them at all, though mushi hold enough physicality to be able to influence them regardless
#B9536C
She's one-handed at the moment, though, so it's not the greatest reply ever. ]
maya amano here! yiiu rang...?
no subject
hello, amano-san
thank you for responding
tonbokiri-san mentioned that there were connections between folklore people were familiar with and the occurrences in this town
he suggested you would be best to discuss such things with
no subject
can we meet uo somewhere
typing is srill trivku
no subject
i live in flavo, though i could just as easily come to you
no subject
its fine i can walk,
look for the lady in a sling!
-> action?
i hope your injury is mending well
if it helps to identify me, i have white hair and green eyes
[Well, a green eye, anyway, but details. He sits out on his porch, waiting for the young woman to arrive. When he sees a person with a sling as described, he stands, raising an arm in greeting.]
no subject
Hello! It was Ginko, right?
no subject
[He has the oddest feeling like he should've prepared tea for her, or something, as those he's visited in his travels as a mushi-shi often do for him, but he's never actually...hosted anything before. Mountain hobo circumstances and all. He's unused to it.]
no subject
[ Her journalism pride would never allow it! ]
no subject
So, what can you tell me about the connections this town's events have to folklore?
no subject
Folklore is especially big on that, and receiving assistance from an unusual source in order to accomplish resisting temptation? That honestly sounds entirely too familiar to me.
no subject
Do you think these trends could hold clues as to the nature of our arrival, or toward possible means of exit?
no subject
Also the fact that the library only contains fairy tales seems like a pretty massive clue to me.
no subject
Does anyone recognize any of the stories from the library?
no subject
... but if you mean we're familiar with the stories in the library-- I am, at least. There are older fairy tales in there, and some Japanese folklore... I'd say maybe give it a look and see if anything stands out!
#FF8080
and we probably should go too deep without letting guren-san know.
but what are mushi?
this is kaoru, btw.
no subject
#9b5148 offered as well, so that could make the three of us
[this man has no clue what copy/paste is so he just typed that handle in himself, painstakingly, hunt-and-peck style. the trials that must be endured for Science.]
who is guren?
as for mushi, they are creatures that are part of nature, much like any other, but far more primal
they share our reality, influence it...and are tied inextricably to the source of all life itself. But they are not truly part of it, in the way we are
they are living, like animals, yet inanimate, like objects
no subject
[Because she only remembers Shiho's hexcode.]
he's the leader of the defense force. he likes to keep track of where people are. it's safe that way.
hm. and they can do things like make colour go away and appear again?
no subject
i can ask, though
and if you can tell me where to find guren-san, i'd be happen to speak with him first
i don't know of any that can specifically affect the color of things, but that doesn't mean there isn't such a mushi
[The kouda mushi has the colors of a reversed rainbow, after all, so it's not impossible.]
no subject
[There is a long gap between that message and the next because Kaoru's room is a mess.]
it's #A5211F!
well, i guess we really shouldn't rule out any possibility before we know for sure.
are mushi a part of any folklore or myths where you're from?
omg ... late night typos. *happy to
mushi themselves are not always well-known, because the majority of people are unable to perceive them
but there are many myths and legends that surround phenomena that are in actuality caused by mushi
I am so late...
[A moment later, she realizes that she's leaving out a lot of information so she sends this:]
what i mean is! we've found a lot of monsters and animals in the forest that come from myths or fairytales and other stories like that! so if mushis are something that are in stories people tell maybe they'd be here too?
no worries dude! ive been lagging too lol
[Because mushi are very real, but they aren't always known as such.]
no subject
#33CCFF
But I'd like to hear about them.
If you need a hand with the forest, I'll be happy to accompany you.
