so. back home, we figured out a way to travel between alternate universes.
we really just managed to go to a world just like our own but different. like, i was a guy sort of different? or people i know lived different lives and also were no longer adult men but teenage girls sort of different.
but i don't see why we can't travel to the worlds of some of the people here! i mean, how different would it be? if we could find someway to meet each other again after all this is over...I'd really like to be able to do that! i don't know if there might be anything that'd make it easier? i don't know much about this topic so if anyone has any idea of how to make it easier for me to find everyone i've become friends with here i'd be happy to hear it!
anyway, what do you think your alternate selves would be like? my guy self is an ikemen but he's so dumb looking...and rude too! why can't alternate me be a gentleman?
[That's a version of yourself you're talking about Kaoru...]

and then afterwards we could go exploring! dicovering things together is good too! or wei wuxian can show us both around!
[Though, hm. Speaking of that guy...]
why do you call him 'wei ying'? is it some kind of nickname?
no subject
[ It will probably end up in disaster. She probably won't like it. But if she wishes to see... he will show her. And anyone else who wants to see. ]
Where we come from, people... some people have several names. One is birth name, used by close family, by elders, by close friends. One is courtesy name, used by everyone.
He gave permission that I call him Wei Ying when we were fifteen.
[ There is one other group of people who use birth name. Those who mean disrespect and derision. WangJi has heard the man called Wei Ying in the last weeks before coming here more than ever before.
But they can't take that name from him.
And he's pretty sure that if he called him Wei WuXian where the man could see, he would think something is wrong, or WangJi is angry with him. Not a mistake he wants made. ]

[And she'd last as long as he has childhood stories to tell.]
i see! so his birth name is wei ying and wei wuxian is his courtesy name?
so you have another name too, right?
no subject
And all of that is correct.
no subject
[She'd of course, focus on the happy ones.]
i see! so what is your birth name?
no subject
Lan Zhan.
no subject
you can say no. i won't mind!
no subject
Not right now, he can't. ]
No.
Please.
no subject
you don't need to say 'please' you know. i already said, right? it's okay for you to say no.
did i upset you?
no subject
Not upset. Only not ready.
[ This is publicly visible. Ha can't make himself explain. ]
no subject
[Because they're friends, now.]
that's good. i didn't want to upset anyone.
[Look, she's not the brightest crayon in the box but she's not a complete moron. He's a private sort, probably wouldn't want to talk about these things on the network.]
can i come over?
no subject
[ And she probably will remember his determination to be Wei Ying's friend. She probably heard it at least twice, after all. At least he's not outright denying friendship, as some people might remember him doing automatically a handful of years ago. ]
If you wish.
no subject
and we can continue this lesson in person!
[And that's all the reply he gets over the network since she's headed over immediately after. It won't be long until there's a knock on his door.]
no subject
[ WangJi doesn't tarry in opening the door once she knocks. He lets her in - both through the physical entrance of the house and the magical, then gives a greeting.
Wei WuXian has been trying to break him out of the formal politeness for years, without much luck. He'll probably like an ally, in all fairness. ]
Would you like tea?
[ And that offer is also a rather deeply ingrained habit. ]
no subject
I'd love tea!
[And she won't even hesitate to come in.
