Hi, this is Joshua.

After we did one of the quests, Estelle and I found a crate full of live chickens in our house. We figured that a steady supply of eggs is probably going to be more useful in the long run than a few meals' worth of meat, so we're working on getting them settled in here.

[ Also, let's be real, eating them just seemed too mean after the chocobos decided these were clearly their tiny adopted offspring. ]

I'm not sure what the yield is going to look like yet, so we haven't figured out how much we'll have to share, or if they're even going to taste like anything yet. But in the meantime, while I think we've figured out how to get the yard fenced in well enough to prevent any escape artists, if you happen to see any of them wandering loose, we'd appreciate it if you could bring them back or let us know so we can collect them.

What did you find, if you don't mind my asking?

An unnecessarily large pile of knives.

It certainly can do more than a model weapon.

If whetstones prove hard to find here, then having some spares might be a very good thing.

[ There's something else they ought to look into, now that their more immediate needs have been sorted out. With everything that's already happened, it's clear that they're going to want to be able to maintain their weapons. ]

That is true. It is especially the case if things like hunting monsters is going to be something we often need to do as a quest.

[You know, harpies and all of that.]

That seems like it'll be the case.

[ Two in one month, if you count the wolves as one too. (Which Joshua does, because playing dentist on a wolf without killing it first is not exactly A Good Idea.) ]

It is almost like having jobs... I must wonder at the very end result of doing them.

Honestly, it's almost exactly like being a bracer back home - strange end results aside, of course.

We're investigative and combat specialists who work to protect civilians and maintain the stability of their respective regions.

[ That sounds like it came right out of the textbook, because it probably did. ]

Often that involves bigger things - exterminating monsters, providing escorts through dangerous places, investigating crimes - but the jobs we're requested for can be pretty...eclectic.

That does sound very similar to what we are doing here. Did you also receive odd rewards back where you were from for those services?

Sometimes people would throw in something on top of the normal cash reward, but not regularly. Most of the time it was all mira.

Is mira the name of your currency?

Yes. It never occurs to me that so many things aren't called the same thing for everyone else until I say them.

Even the small differences in cultures can be fascinating.

From what I can tell, Estelle and I are the only ones from our world. Some people sound like they're from places that are at least similar to each other, but nothing I've heard from anyone else really sounds like Zemuria.

I have been surprised by the number of people not precisely from the same Earth as I, but similar enough that not much distinctions are there.

At least when it comes to everyday life matters.

Yeah, Earth's sounded pretty ubiquitous so far. It might seem more like it for those of us already in the minority, admittedly.

Yes... I wonder the reason for the preference for people from Earth.

...so far as we know, anyway. It's still a pretty limited sample size to say anything definite.

Not any that I have been to or seen. Some of its elements are reminiscent of places on Earth, but that could simply be a coincidence that the architectural types are similar.

There may yet be towns or cities beyond this one...

They'd have to be pretty far, from what we've been able to tell so far.

I'd like to see if we can get one of the boats seaworthy enough to scout out the waters some more, but we have more pressing issues.
