USER: #DC143C - QUESTION FOR EVERYONE
[ USER: #DC143C ]
Hey. So...
...
Question for anyone. Or for everyone I guess.
How sure are you that you're still alive? Back where you're from I mean.
Like on a scale from 1 to 10. Where 1 is "I definitely died" and 10 is "I'm definitely still alive" and everything in between.
Thanks in advance. I know it's a weird question. I just... I gotta know.
[He's asked some folks, but the results so far are mixed. And Keith needs to figure out one way or another if this is just some weird unexpected afterlife, and he's at a solid 2.5 on his own scale so he's wondering.]

wars complicate things way too much most of the time.
[A PAUSE. BECAUSE. Like...two of the people here definitely got him killed on two different occasions and all kinds of fun shenanigans like that, but. Details.]
yeah! i would rather be able to see some of my friends than not. and i wouldn't exactly wish this place on people but who knows. maybe your friends will show up, too.
unless we really are the only people who are supposed to be here. then that just blows even more.
no subject
But as much as I'd like to see them, the universe needs them way more than I do.
Besides, I don't plan on sticking around here either way. We're going to figure out what's going on here and who's responsible for it.
no subject
we've already been here longer than i thought we would be.
so if you have any ideas or plans to go toward figuring this shit out, let me know.
[Somehow...forums. Whatever.]

But not over this network.
Whoever brought us here gave us these stupid laptops. There is zero percent chance they're not reading every word we say on here.
no subject
you're right.
they gave us laptops that were all pre-programmed for us and gave us hex codes.
which makes this even creepier?
they're probably reading and also watching us from somewhere else, but at least we have some change of privacy offline.
no subject
But sensitive information, even if there's no guarantee they're not listening to us otherwise, that needs to be kept off the network or we have to assume they'll know too.
no subject
we should come up with a secret code word or something to say on the network when people have important information or sensitive information to share. that way people know to meet up in person instead. kind of like spies.
no subject
Code is a good idea. Or some sort of physical network to share information -- written or oral. Those would be harder to hack, at least.
Though not necessarily harder to infiltrate.
[It's not that he's getting paranoid. He's just always been like this.]
no subject
...like a book hidden in a specific location. something like that?
no subject
Yeah exactly, like that.
Or a chain of people where each person is responsible for passing the information to the next.
And maybe we can identify somewhere that could be used to meet, physically. Secure it, sweep it for listening devices. Make it was secure as we can.
no subject
good call. the only problem with a chain of people is that people might get the message wrong? and that would be pretty messy.
the rest of that's a good idea. there are too many empty buildings around here. there's bound to be one we can use ourselves once we did a sweep. three districts to pick from too.
no subject
True, it'd be a bad game of telephone. Unless it were something written to be passed.
You're right about that. Plenty of things to choose from. Not a bad idea to scout around to find some options.
no subject
hmm...i can start scouting and see what i can find. i am pretty good at covering a lot of ground in a short time.
no subject
Yeah, same. I've run through most of the town quickly, but I wasn't necessarily looking to scout a location.
So. Don't know if we met since... weird anonymous forum #-codes and all. Who are you?
no subject
i don't think we were expecting to have to do this so i cannot say i blame you. i have a few ideas where to check too but it will take some time.
oh. yeah. geez i kind of hate the forum already. i'm john.
maybe we should also just start introducing ourselves on the forum until we memorize people's hex codes. even though that is a lot of codes to memorize.
no subject
Time seems to be the only thing we actually have quite a supply of right now.
Flying John? It's Keith.
Maybe so. Wonder if we could make a directory. Like... just a post with a roll call. I mean, people would have to actually respond and use it. And some might not want to. But. It might be helpful.
no subject
but yeah. we have a lot of time left.
oh! hey. see this is why the forum thing is stupid. a directory wouldn't be a bad idea if we could get people to cooperate but i think they would? most people i have talked to here are kind of in the same boat and trying to figure stuff out.
no subject
I agree. Hard enough to remember everyone's name. Nevermind some string of numbers and letters.
Might not be a bad idea then. Huh.
[Well now Keith is thinking. Safe house. Directory. Plans! It make him feel better to be doing things, even if so far those things aren't getting him any closer to finding a way out of here yet.]
no subject
some codes are easier to remember than others! but then again my friends and i use the same codes here that we do back there so maybe that is totally different.
we have enough to keep us busy. i'll start looking around and see what i can find out if you want to figure out where to get a notebook and the directory? or the other way around, i don't care.
no subject
Yeah. Sounds good. I'll keep you updated on what I do or don't find. And what I figure out for the directory, someway to get people to use it and keep it easy to find.

Great. Later, John.
