awashrpg | User: #FFDF00 - Missing colors? And a request

Hey, it's Midoriya again. The shadows haven't acted up in a few days, so hopefully that means we've seen the end of those attacks for now. It looks as if everyone's color is back to normal, too.

[What isn't normal, though, is Izuku's text. Instead of the eye-searing yellow that it's been for the past few weeks, it's returned to the black that everyone had in the beginning. How strange.]

Since we're no longer fighting off our shadows 24/7, there's a couple things I wanted to discuss:

1. Has anyone else noticed color disappearing around the town again? I'm not 100% sure if figuring out the cause of this could help us restore the color in this place later on, but I think it's worth looking into.

2. If anyone's brought back something from the forest before, would you mind letting me borrow it for a couple days? I've been told there's something unusual about the items and creatures in there, and if we have more samples to examine, it'll be easier to confirm whether everything has the same properties or not.

That's the hope... anyway, her--I, I mean their magic will help us a lot in this case. [Izuku stammers, looking flustered as he accidentally slips up. Wow, he's really bad at this.]

... You're not very good at keeping secrets.

[Because of course he's just going to point it out.]

[Izuku just drops his face into his hands.] Can you forget I said anything?

I won't go looking for her, if that's what you're worried about.

Oh, I know that. [Izuku looks up, surprised, as if he'd never even considered Todoroki would do that.] I trust you.

Someone else might, though. It's just, I promised I'd keep their identity out of it. They're not comfortable with people knowing what they can do yet.

Ah...?

Are they from a place where quirks are weird?

Sort...of. It sounds like even though powers are regulated there, they're often treated with suspicion.

[Izuku rests his chin in his hand, frowning.]

The people who don't have any power there are the majority, sort of the opposite of ours.

That's weird.

[Well, not really. It was normal a long, long time ago.]

I guess I can understand why they'd want to keep them secret at home, but keeping them secret here is... There's a lot of people with a lot of powers.

Habit, maybe. [For a moment, there's an odd look on his face.]

Maybe they don't want to get used to having their powers out in the open, when they know they have to go back to their world sooner or later.

[It's a strange look and he logs it.]

Do you have something else to say?

... I wonder how long we're going to be here.

Nothing, really. [Still, he worries at his bottom lip as he says this, so it's not nothing.] It's just...strange when you thing about it. In their world, having powers sets you apart and everyone treats you differently because of it. For us, it's the quirkless that are treated like the odd ones out.

[Izuku shakes his head, like he's shaking off unpleasant thoughts.]

I don't know, Todoroki-ku--Todoroki. [He corrects himself quickly.] I want to think it won't be much longer, but we aren't much closer to figuring out anything. [Deep breath!] We'll find a way back home! It's just taking us a little longer than we expected, that's all.

Want to talk about it?[He gives a small nod as Midoriya talks. Briefly he wonders if his friend has a relative who's quirkless or something. 20% isn't much of the population, but there's still a few people who don't have it yet.]

We'll figure it out. Until then we can help each other survive this place.

[There's a wry smile on his face, even as he hesitates and looks down at the table.]

Why does it feel like I've been putting too much on you lately? You shouldn't have to listen to all my worries, you know.

It's not a burden or anything. If I didn't want to hear it, I wouldn't ask. ... Besides, isn't that what friends do?

You listened to me back then, and we weren't even friends yet. [And Midoriya believed him.]

[He shifts, looking bashful all of a sudden.]

You needed someone to listen. Even though we didn't talk much before the festival, you were always so straightforward and honest. I didn't think you would pull me aside like that if it wasn't important.

Then... the third part of the tournament started, and you just...seemed so sad.

[There was no way he coudl've left things alone after that.]

[Was he? He felt like he kept himself at a distance from the entire class until after the festival. There was a goal he wanted to achieve and everybody else was just standing in the way of that.

What a stupid way to think.

Midoriya really was the catalyst of letting himself open up.]

I didn't realize you were watching me that closely.

[This time, it's a sheepish laugh that escapes him.]

I sort of watched everyone in our class pretty closely the first couple of months. You know I like studying quirks--a class full of hero course students at UA...everyone's abilities were bound to be really amazing.

It's a useful skill.

[There's a little pause as he considers something-.]

You're really amazing yourself, you know.

Me? [Izuku looks surprised.]

I've only figured out how to use imy quirk without hurting myself really recently. I know I still have a long way to go before I can catch up to everyone.

That's true.

But your quirk isn't why I think you're amazing. [Actually this line of thought is more embarrassing than he was expecting.]

[That's pretty high praise coming from Todoroki--and the part that really hits Izuku a moment later is that Todoroki is honest to a fault. He actually means it.

How do you respond to something like this? Izuku's coming up blank, too busy hiding his reddening face in his arms. Very helpful.]

[Shouto turns away, face slowly turning a shade of pink he didn't realize it could. Maybe he shouldn't have said anything?]

[There's a strange tension in the atmosphere now, and Izuku isn't sure what to make of it. He does know that he doesn't want this weird silence to drag on for much longer, though. So he clears his throat.]

A-anyway! We were talking about quirks before, weren't we?

[Smooth as butter, this one.]

Right. Did you... Want to keep taking about them or was there something else?

Let's just... talk about quirks again! [Because that is a much safer subject...]
