This is Lt. Colonel Guren Ichinose of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army. I don't expect that to mean anything to any of you, but if it can make anyone take me a little more seriously, then I'll take it.

I'm sure you all saw the illustration of those apparent shadow monsters. If there are dangers, it means we should be ready for them, and somehow I've run into a surprising few people who have enough experience in combat. Some of them don't have any at all.

Would any of you be interested in learning how to fight? To defend yourselves? What about the capable out there— are you willing to teach, or spar to improve yourselves? Let me know, and I can set something up for regular practicing.

(OOC: Basically, I thought it might be fun to encourage more random CR with both characters who would like to learn how to fight, and characters who already know how and are willing to teach or spar! If there's enough interest, I can throw up an ooc post with match up sort of things that can provide a semi-regular chance for new CR (via threading or handwaving). Let me know in your tag, or via PM if your character won't tag the post!

Edit: I put up an ooc sign up! Please remember to sign up there if you'd like your character to be included in some fighting (and friendship) styled pair ups!)

[ that's... weird? that's weird. dextera caused the apocalypse and it's still strange to hear that something like that happened—it's enough that he forgets to be distraught about his own guilt. ]

I'm not sure if I am. I think we must be close.

[ But If Dex caused the apocalypse and Guren caused the apocalypse, then who’s flying the plane?? ]

Seems like it. I’m 24, so just go with something like that.

I'll be 25 if you want me to be older.

[ is he... joking? ]

[ DONT JUST SAY THAT? It’s embarrassing holy shit ]

I thought I would ask. I think I'm younger anyway.

I’m about to go meet someone in a little while. I’ll stop by to see you after.

[ Why?? He doesn’t say why or ask he just decides this?? ]

[ what's wrong with his fac—oh ok guren's coming over. he accepts this, and he doesn't even think to ask why because that's just how he rolls. guren will explain when he gets here... dextera supposes... ]

All right. I don't think I'm going to be anywhere else.

Good. It looks like my laptop won’t work outside the house, so you’ll have to use your own or deal with it again.

[ He’s coming to ask if he can rly kill him, ]

[ cool! that's not at all what dextera wants to talk about but he innocently doesn't realize he has no choice here. ]

We'll figure something out. I can use your hand again if I need to.

That’s right. I shouldn’t take over two hours or that shady guy down there is bad news. But I should be fine. See you soon.

[ He Just leaves it at that?? Doesn’t wait for response or questioning? He’s just meeting someone he can most likely fight it’s fine.

At least he makes it to Dextera’s house with plenty of time to spare, knocking on the door like the polite dude he is. ]

Hey, Dex. It’s me. [ open up let him in ]

[ dex... a nickname of a nickname! it's not unwelcome, but it does sound strange. he almost doesn't recognize it as a call for him until he remembers that guren said he was coming—this is proof that he's alive, which is good. dextera doesn't have to enact revenge or anything.

he opens the door, looking much more settled than the last time guren saw him. the house suits him just fine, as do the people in it. no one expects anything of him... and noctis' bird is a friend. ]

[ He doesn’t have a scratch on him, either! Even if he did before, when he asked the guy to have his weird dragon attack him, his demon would have healed it anyway.

Once the door opens, Guren immediately gives Dex a once over to check that he’s not like, dying, and then helps himself to stepping inside. ] Looks a little more lived in, now. You have other people who stay here with you?

[ dextera is checking him, too. even without knowing what went down with guren's mysterious new friend, the threat of death is enough for dextera to look him over... but he, too, seems just peachy keen.

he nods, and holds up two fingers—then hesitates, but rather than holding up four, he holds up another two on his other hand. joshua and noctis' friends don't live here... really... but... it can be lively. ]

Haha, guests?

[ He guesses, stepping a little further into the place to peek around. Feathers... ]

Mine bring people over, too. They’re all pains in the ass. Won’t keave me alone. [ He turns back. ] Is your room the same one? Let’s get out of the way.

[ dextera has learned that the bird is not for eating—even though it has color and would probably be delicious? it looks so delectable, but...

oh well. he gestures for guren to follow him, back to the room they found before. the angelic rifle has been leaned up against the wall, and dextera has clearly made a little cozy spot for himself in the corner since the beds seem less than ideal. with his coat, the floor is comfortable enough, though a chill did roll in and get him shivering.

this is the first room he can remember having, though. that's exciting enough. ]

[ Once they’re in the room, Guren doesn’t waste any time. He faces Dex with a hand resting on his sword. ]

I won’t bother you by asking how you’d do it, but how sure are you that you’d be able to kill me? [ He needs to know for reasons ]

[ oh! this is a less fun conversation than dextera had been anticipating. all at once, the good humor drains out of him—he's not combative, the way guren seems to be approaching, but if there was any light in his eyes it flickers away under the weight of his sin.

how to communicate that he's completely sure...

dextera's brow furrows, and he meets guren's gaze with a meaningful wordlessness. he doesn't have to say anything. he's burdened by his certainty. ]

[ Hm, okay. So he’s really sure... but Guren wants to test something, anyway. His fingers curl around the handle of his sword. ]

Sorry. You might not be able to deal with this, but it’s the only way to judge. I’ll explain a little after.

[ It’s the nicest he’s ever been while doing this, since normally it’s to intimidate or see who’s capable of wielding a black demon series weapon. But that doesn’t make it any more pleasant. His sword slips only a small amount from its sheath, and the atmosphere in the room changes completely. It’s like a black energy, leaking from Guren’s sword and coiling around anyone who happens to be close enough— that being Dextera. Only those who have enough strength or willpower can resist it, unless it’s someone with high psychic resistance, or you use wards. ]

[ it's... strange. it feels as if something should be attacking him, but it's not—there's a noticeable pressure in the room, and dextera even lifts his arm to cover his face as if guren might leap on him at any second.

...but there's nothing.

dextera is neither strong nor willful, at least he doesn't think of himself as such, but there's a twisting in him that simply won't let his consciousness ever be attacked the way this seeping, terrible energy wants to. he was chosen by god herself—a mad god but god nevertheless—and it seems his baroque holds, even here.

the only sign of a response in him is that the crystal in his pocket glows a little warmer. otherwise, he seems just fine. afraid, but fine. ]

Oho, not bad.

[ He can’t help the smirk on his face as he slips his sword back away. In an instant, the room clears, the pressure and blackness is gone, and it’s just Guren reaching over to gently lower those arms. ]

Hey, it’s okay. What you felt just now was my demon. [ He jabs his thumb at himself, looking both intrigued and proud of himself. ] Most people cant stay conscious when they feel something as overwhelming as that. That means there’s something to you after all.

[ And So... hm, it bothers him not to know how he’d possibly manage to kill him, and he’s not sure if he believes it— but he needs something. Especially with how heavy his heart is at this current point in time. His friends aren’t here, Yuu isn’t here, no one is here that he can focus on to stay himself. ]

That demon is constantly trying to take over.

[ dextera doesn’t like where this is going. the demon was bad enough—odd and terrifying, like a baroque that could encompass the world. he doesn’t want to know much more, but guren is... a friend.

he looks up at guren, clearly listening, but a little frazzled. take over?

there is something to him, but what good is that? he doesn’t want to kill guren, and he hopes that this is not the direction their conversation is taking. ]

I'm in control.

[Guren just keeps going, and his tone is... complex. Sad? It's like he's trying to convince himself by saying that. He's in control. He's in control.] But if I ever seem not myself, I want you to try to bring me back, first.

[However he wants to try that... He doesn't know. He barely shares this stuff to begin with. If Dextera weren't mute, he probably wouldn't be sharing this at all. It's strange how that works.] But if I've completely lost myself, it'll probably be an unstoppable rampage. I have too much I need to do, but if that happens... you'll have to kill me.

[Welp sorry it went there]

[ it went there!

dextera has killed before. he can remember the feeling of—throats, under his fingers, and the vision of the sentry angel wasting away in front of the research laboratory. he’s sorry. he doesn’t want to do that to guren. he’ll try to bring him back, but being asked to kill someone just in case is an unpleasant burden.

but he won’t refuse. ]

...

[ he takes guren’s hand, not to say anything, just to have it—and nods, squeezing it a little tighter than may be necessary. ]

Hey, what's with that reaction...?

[Now his tone is sad but trying to lace itself with some kind of humor. This is an incredibly heavy burden. He knows it. But it's one he has to share this time, no matter what he wants. Eight years of shouldering his own sin, of keeping everything from his closest friends— it's weighing on his heart, and he struggles to keep his own sanity more and more. He has to find ways to lighten it. It's a necessity now.]

By saying that, it's guaranteed that I'll live. Because I have to, no matter what. And there's no way I'd let a boring guy like you kill me.

[Is he helping]

[ it helps a little.

guren reminds him something of the coffin man, whose blasé approach to death makes dextera feel a little less insane about the whole thing. even so, it’s not easy or fun to be tasked with killing someone if they go off the rails.

he wishes he were just a boring guy! then guren wouldn’t ask him to do something like this!! why does dextera always have to kill people!!! ]

...

[ another period of silence, and then he forces guren’s palm open to deliver him the most aggressive and least helpful message yet.
