Hey everyone.
This is Dirk Strider, one of the town's newer acquisitions and before anyone else asks: yes, we're related.
So all that quest bullshit reminded me of something I could use some help with and with all the various skill sets found around here culminating in a veritable fountain of knowledge, maybe one of you can.
Does anyone know how to fix a broken sword? Specifically a katana.
It was supposed to be unbreakable, but it turns out that a probably fake Japanese sword doesn't hold a candle to a real Welsh sword. Go figure.
There's not a whole lot of the blade left so I don't know if it's salvageable at all or what would be needed exactly to fix it.

Or alternatively does anyone have a sword they can spare?
I would offer to make you a robot in return for either of those options, but unfortunately resources are way too limited for that. It would require taking apart several laptops and since those are scarce and person-bound, that's unlikely to happen.
Besides, without an uranium core it would be a shitty rudimentary robot and that's too subpar. Ain't gonna saddle anyone up with useless junk like that.

Instead I can offer to make you some tailored clothes? Like I can only work with fabric that's already around here meaning I can't do much about color unless someone has secretly been hoarding dye somewhere and is willing to share.
But I can at least make it so you don't look like a peasant extra who strayed too far from the Braveheart set.
Or if you need help with a quest from a red, I can do that too. But then I'm down to quest any time so that doesn't feel like fair compensation.
I don't know. Name your price, I guess?

And if anyone needs another red who is real fast, can fly and is good in combat, hit me up.

Guns are generally more my forte, but I could at least have a look at it, if you’d like. I’ve had to mend a fair share of blades in my lifetime.

My strife specibus is bladekind so swords work best for me, but at this point I'm not picky. Anything sharp and pointy will do in a pinch as a backup to my current backup.

If I had to guesstimate I would say there's about 1/4 of it left, so most of it is gone.
But if I cobbled together some smaller weapons to melt down, would that work?

Ah... Yeesh. That's a little more than just repairing at that point. But that said, it's not impossible. If you can get me some materials, I could certainly do something. It's going to be one hell of a Frankenstein sword, though.

Yes. I'm the brother you never knew you had nor ever wanted in your life, but here I am to dispense brotherly wisdom and ill raps anyway.
And my robots are whatever I want them to be, but generally consisting out of mechanical parts and being supplied with a cognitive algorithm is how I roll.
So that would be how I would define one.
Something mechanical that moves on its own and possibly has artificial intelligence.

He always carries enough with him to supply a whole army so I don't doubt that he has some here.
Don't know if he'll let you tinker with them though.
And I'll take not impossible and Frankenstein over not having a usable sword at all.
Like at most I can poorly peel a potato with it as it is right now. I don't think I can afford to be picky about aesthetic.
So what exactly would you need?

Peeling potatoes is an important venture! But we have plenty of things that do that job just fine.

I'll just need similar metals to the one of your sword. If you get me anything harder or softer, you'll risk having it break on your again, but if everything has the same hardness, you should be good to go.

Can you tell me more about what kind you make? I'm super going through tech withdrawal, hearing even a little bit helps...

As you should be.
Their purpose varies from robot to robot.
I've made bots to support and protect my friends, some to spar and have deathmatches with, and I have some really rad rapbots.
If I could transfer pictures of them from my computer to this laptop I would.
They're the best examples of my work, but it's a moot point anyway.
Making that kind of tech just isn't viable here.

Exactly, I'll leave it to actual knives who can get the job done better than this sad excuse of a broken sword than can't even function as a knife.
And I'm not sure what kind of metal fake Japanese swords are made of, but I'll see what I can scrounge up by checking hardness. Might take me a while though.
But is there anything you want in return? I could get started on that.

It's cool, that's fine. We're down to the most basic and ancient tech here so I get the tech withdrawal thing.
And I'm always down for talking about my robots anyway.
They were mostly robots with combat capabilities for training and whatever support was needed.
But I had some rapbots too. I designed one of them to be unbeatable in a rap-off and I succeeded. Never managed to win a single match against him.
Did you have a lot of robots where you're from?
