User: #FFDF00 - Bestiary, an update, and an offering!!
Hi, Chroma! This is Izuku Midoriya. We got a lot of new people since the last time I posted, so I thought I'd introduce myself again in case we haven't met yet. Anyway, there's a few things I wanted to discuss.
[Oddly enough, even though the newcomers' texts have all gained color recently, Izuku's is still the default black.]
1. I've finished the bestiary of the creatures we've come across in the forest & town so far. If there's anything missing, let me know and I'll add it in. I'll do my best to keep this updated and open for anyone to access on the forum from now on, in case anyone goes into the forest and comes across any of these again. Even if we keep running into new creatures, knowing what to expect can still help a lot.
You can find the information here: ╭( ・ㅂ・)و✧ (ooc: pretend it's a link to another forum post)
So far there's just this digital version, but I can also work on a physical copy to put in the library if people want that? It'll be easier to include drawings of these creatures that way.
2. It looks like there's a clear trend in the kind of creatures that we're running into now. The majority of them are from some kind of mythology, all from different cultures. A friend of mine was able to analyze some samples brought back from the forest, and it turns out that these creatures don't have a history, as if they were created solely for us to run into while we're in there.
Right now, the bestiary only includes the ones we know for sure are around, but after hearing what my friend had to say, I think it would be a good idea to add a section for other well known mythological creatures as a precaution.
What do you guys think?
3. That brings me to the next point! If you let me borrow something of yours last time, you can come pick it up now! Or I could bring it to you, whatever works.
4. I have a manual charger now! If you have a small electronic device that you want charged, just let me know and I'd be happy to help you out! I think it's only enough to work on cellphones and things like that, but that's better than nothing, right?

Thank you, Izuku. That's very helpful.
I don't suppose you've crossreferenced some of the creatures in your list with the stories in the library?

I guess it couldn't hurt to look again!

So we might be able to figure out what else we have to worry about from looking at the stories.
Or we can figure out if the stories match up to see if we can get more information on those creatures from the fairytales, weaknesses or tendencies.
If you need help researching, I'd be happy to help.

I wouldn't mind the company if you're really okay with it. I can read pretty fast, but it would still take me a long time to get through so many books.

I'm a pretty quick reader, thankfully. And I'm used to doing research for my job back home. When would you like to go to the library?

[Someone certainly isn't wasting any time.]
But I know I'll be there at least for the next week, since I'm getting some research suggestions already.

Are you sure you're not needed there any more?

Then, maybe I'll see you at the library later today, if you're not too tired after cooking for so long. But only if you're up to it!
[He just doesn't want Clark to tire himself out.]

I'll see you there.
[ play out? log? continue here? ]
continue here...action!!
It looks like he's already been here for a while!]

How's it going, Izuku?

It's going pretty great! I found a section I missed last time and I've been picking through those for anything I can add.

To be fair, given the magic, it may not have been there last time so don't be too hard on yourself.
[ He settles in his chair a little. ]
How can I help?

I'm trying to cross reference the information on mermaids, but I think this is the only fairytale I can think of that has them. [He frowns down at the book.] Some of these fairy tales are more depressing and gruesome than I remember.

[ He taps one of the books.]
A pair of siblings known as the Brothers Grimm were known for writing a number of stories down, and their versions are considered some of the most gruesome. But looking for the older stories can sometimes reveal something less... lurid. More genuine.
Each telling is flavored by the storyteller and their objective. Unfortunately, we don't know all of the authors... but sometimes, context tells you a lot.

I was thinking about what Wayne-san said earlier, that a lot of the Greek myths involves trials that can't be overcome. If this place borrows a lot from that and the fairy tales, that doesn't bode well for us, does it...?
I mean... [Izuku winces.] I failed the test based on Orpheus' story pretty badly.

[ He looks over at Izuku. ]
Failure happens. Thankfully, unlike those stories, we've got each other here to help. So even if there might be some repercussions for failure, we can assist one another in dealing with it.
