User: #FFDF00 - Bestiary, an update, and an offering!!

Hi, Chroma! This is Izuku Midoriya. We got a lot of new people since the last time I posted, so I thought I'd introduce myself again in case we haven't met yet. Anyway, there's a few things I wanted to discuss.

[Oddly enough, even though the newcomers' texts have all gained color recently, Izuku's is still the default black.]

1. I've finished the bestiary of the creatures we've come across in the forest & town so far. If there's anything missing, let me know and I'll add it in. I'll do my best to keep this updated and open for anyone to access on the forum from now on, in case anyone goes into the forest and comes across any of these again. Even if we keep running into new creatures, knowing what to expect can still help a lot.

You can find the information here: ╭( ・ㅂ・)و✧
(ooc: pretend it's a link to another forum post)

So far there's just this digital version, but I can also work on a physical copy to put in the library if people want that? It'll be easier to include drawings of these creatures that way.

2. It looks like there's a clear trend in the kind of creatures that we're running into now. The majority of them are from some kind of mythology, all from different cultures. A friend of mine was able to analyze some samples brought back from the forest, and it turns out that these creatures don't have a history, as if they were created solely for us to run into while we're in there.

Right now, the bestiary only includes the ones we know for sure are around, but after hearing what my friend had to say, I think it would be a good idea to add a section for other well known mythological creatures as a precaution.

What do you guys think?

3. That brings me to the next point! If you let me borrow something of yours last time, you can come pick it up now! Or I could bring it to you, whatever works.

4. I have a manual charger now! If you have a small electronic device that you want charged, just let me know and I'd be happy to help you out! I think it's only enough to work on cellphones and things like that, but that's better than nothing, right?

This is Maribelle. Regarding number two, I believe it's an excellent idea, although I warn it will be meticulous. What's fantasy in one world is reality in another, or even nonexistent altogether.

Nobody's run into a unicorn yet. They probably exist, right?

It's not cold enough for yuki onna yet.

Most of the creatures in the quests have been hostile. It'd be nice to know there are some creatures that aren't.

I wonder what month it is.

Thank you, Izuku. That's very helpful.

I don't suppose you've crossreferenced some of the creatures in your list with the stories in the library?

Be careful what you wish for.

In some folklore, unicorns are insufferable and arrogant. It's also said they can only be tameable by virgin women.

A lot of the creatures you've mentioned are creatures from fairytales.

So we might be able to figure out what else we have to worry about from looking at the stories.

Or we can figure out if the stories match up to see if we can get more information on those creatures from the fairytales, weaknesses or tendencies.

If you need help researching, I'd be happy to help.

It depends on the culture. Unicorns represent purity mostly, or are able to purify. If that's the case, they stand for ultimate, unwavering honor and goodness, a sacred state of being no one can hope to reach.

Sounds great in theory.

But this kind of thinking doesn't understand shades of grey. They shun, and sometimes kill, anyone not "pure" indiscriminately. To sum it up: don't be surprised when the unicorn uses its horn to spear you because it thinks you're unworthy.

Well, in my realm, we have pegasi, unicorns, and dragons, off the top of my head, and all of those are real.

As far as "monsters" go, we also have the Risen - human-like beasts with no heart, soul or mind.

I think adding a list of potentials is a good idea.

And Clark mentioned it above as well so I want to back it up. I think it would be useful to add historical context to some of these creatures, even if it's a short summary of the legends and mythology they extend from. Some people come from universes unfamiliar with the origins of the creatures. The seem concurrent with the reality I'm from though and I'm sure there's a few others here who can add context.

If we look at your record of local fauna, the probability of any unicorns being aggressive will be high. Any beasts from this place will be aggressive.

There's a possibility the unicorns can still be captured. Like the geese.

Their horns supposedly offer various magical benefits, but legends of unicorns being harmed never end well. It'd be difficult to keep every single person here from trying to kill it for the horn.

[After a moment or two, something else comes through:]

Not bad, I guess. With the list.

There are several Pegasai and Unicorns within the Shepherds, with warriors who can ride them into battle. As for dragons, they're few and far between these days, I've never seen one myself, unless you count the manakete. They're a special type that has both dragon and human forms, but they're actual people like you and I, not just wild beasts.

Ask all you like about the Risen. I've fought more than enough to know plenty.

There might be dragons in the forest too. That depends a lot on what kind of folklore they're based off of. Western ones are usually hostile. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw that kind around eventually.

Maybe? I don't remember it being like this at home. But maybe this is normal for the region. Too bad those books are only fairy tales.

[Same hat as the reply above, honestly...]

This is really great, and I'm glad you've compiled all of this, Midoriya-kun.

But also, do you think the charger would work on an mp3 player?

pretty exhaustive list you've got there
knowing things like demons taking your color and emotions though, does that come from personal experience
'cause damn that's a lot for one guy to go through just for a list of mythological beasts running around
