User: #FFDF00 - Bestiary, an update, and an offering!!

Hi, Chroma! This is Izuku Midoriya. We got a lot of new people since the last time I posted, so I thought I'd introduce myself again in case we haven't met yet. Anyway, there's a few things I wanted to discuss.

[Oddly enough, even though the newcomers' texts have all gained color recently, Izuku's is still the default black.]

1. I've finished the bestiary of the creatures we've come across in the forest & town so far. If there's anything missing, let me know and I'll add it in. I'll do my best to keep this updated and open for anyone to access on the forum from now on, in case anyone goes into the forest and comes across any of these again. Even if we keep running into new creatures, knowing what to expect can still help a lot.

So far there's just this digital version, but I can also work on a physical copy to put in the library if people want that? It'll be easier to include drawings of these creatures that way.


2. It looks like there's a clear trend in the kind of creatures that we're running into now. The majority of them are from some kind of mythology, all from different cultures. A friend of mine was able to analyze some samples brought back from the forest, and it turns out that these creatures don't have a history, as if they were created solely for us to run into while we're in there.

Right now, the bestiary only includes the ones we know for sure are around, but after hearing what my friend had to say, I think it would be a good idea to add a section for other well known mythological creatures as a precaution.

What do you guys think?


3. That brings me to the next point! If you let me borrow something of yours last time, you can come pick it up now! Or I could bring it to you, whatever works.


4. I have a manual charger now! If you have a small electronic device that you want charged, just let me know and I'd be happy to help you out! I think it's only enough to work on cellphones and things like that, but that's better than nothing, right?

This is Maribelle. Regarding number two, I believe it's an excellent idea, although I warn it will be meticulous. What's fantasy in one world is reality in another, or even nonexistent altogether.

I figured it would be! With so many possibilities, I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

Any recommendations for things that should be added in?

Well, in my realm, we have pegasi, unicorns, and dragons, off the top of my head, and all of those are real.

As far as "monsters" go, we also have the Risen - human-like beasts with no heart, soul or mind.

I don't see why not. They're usually benevolent creatures in the stories we hear. They wouldn't be so bad to have around!

Yeah...we did have snow just after we got here, though. It's too bad we don't have a calendar to keep track of the seasons.

Most of the creatures in the quests have been hostile. It'd be nice to know there are some creatures that aren't.

I've looked in the library already, but all I found were fairytales so far.

I think adding a list of potentials is a good idea.

And Clark mentioned it above as well so I want to back it up. I think it would be useful to add historical context to some of these creatures, even if it's a short summary of the legends and mythology they extend from. Some people come from universes unfamiliar with the origins of the creatures. The seem concurrent with the reality I'm from though and I'm sure there's a few others here who can add context.

That's a good point! I was more focused on compiling information that would be relevant in an attack, but historical context could be helpful, too.

I'll see what I can do. I'm rusty with my knowledge of mythical and fairytale creatures, but hopefully the library will have books that can help fill in the gaps.

It's been a busy three months. [Sometimes not in the best way...]

Not me, personally, but it's happened to someone in town before. A group of us went into the forest to map it out when we first got here, and that's where a lot of these come from.

It's just a lot of information collecting! It isn't really a big deal, but I'm happy to share what I have with everyone if people find it useful.

The ones in the community garden should be safe, if that's what you're worried about! You shouldn't run into trouble with anything you run into at the edge of the forest either. The forest doesn't usually send anything after you until you go deeper into it.

Thank you for compiling a bestiary for us, Midoriya-san. It's useful.

I was part of the group that encountered the fortune teller in the woods. You're able to leave as long as you do not agree to her offer; once you say yes, you're stuck until payment is made and you've heard your fortune. She told me terrible things about my future, but I'm not going to take a strange woman's words as truth. It's likely that she simply read my mind and listed off the worst-case scenarios I've thought of.

I don't blame you for being skeptical. Considering how often the forest has been using illusions to trick us, it's not a stretch to believe the fortunes your group got are designed to mess with you, too.

I'll make sure to edit the Fortune Teller entry with the new information, Asuka-san! Any thoughts on what else to include?

The bestiary will be very useful information to have readily available, especially if another group ever arrives. Thank you for efforts, Midoriya-kun.

However, I am interested in this lack of history you speak of. How far into their pasts would your friend normally be able to see into? Is there really no information about these creatures at all?

Of course! It's always better to have the information consolidated in one place, especially if we get any newcomers, like you said.

Pretty far back, normally. You remember when we went into the forest to find Caramia-san's pendant? My friend looked at some of the samples I brought back from those creatures we had to fight, and it turns out they were all made to keep us away from the pendant. That's the impression they got, anyway.

This is just for the monsters in the forest, right? Not for normal animals? [In whatever definition of "normal" you can call them.]

I wonder if we could use the books in the library to try and get an idea of creatures to expect... Most of the ones you've documented so far appear in some of the stories.
