[ Noctis tells him, a little wounded. Okay, so maybe Flora is way better at doing things like that, but still. Flora is totally better, and it's kind of nice to have her around; she makes Prompto happy, and that's what matters.

Although Noctis can't resist a nudge: ]

Are you both gonna do gross things while we're gone?

[Even as Prompto's face warms to pink, he elbows Noct's ribs in retaliation.]

Are you gonna do gross things with Iggy to distract him?

[Grossssssssss. Prompto exaggerates wrinkling his nose, then laughs again and pushes at Noct.]

That's why I want you on Team Decoy, dude. Not because I don't think you can do magic. It just makes more sense than sending Flor, right? [He does a little fistpump. They got this.] He won't suspect a thing.

[nascere]

I'm not going to do anything gross!

[ Noctis flushes red, ears burning because augh, Prompto! But he gets it, and already he's thinking of where he can drag Ignis to. ]

All right, Team Decoy is going to take him out. What time are you gonna be done? We gonna give him the scrapbook too, right?

Yeah, of course! Give me, ummm... like an hour or two, just in case? I dunno how many times we're gonna have to freeze and refreeze it until it's right.

[He pokes Noct's chest a few times with both index fingers.]

Can you handle that, loooverboooy?

Of course I can handle that! I'm the boss of handling things.

[ Especially Ignis, who seems to like it a lot when Noctis bosses him around, but no one needs to know that! He's giving his arm a squeeze before giving him a sideways grin. ]

So. Tell your Ace I said hi, okay? I'll be back in about four hours, so you can do gross things with her. Put a sock on the door if you're doing worse, and don't let the chocolate melt.

[Pink cheeks flash to red in an instant. Embarrassed, Prompto hisses:]

I'll put a sock on your door!

[And the poking turns to ineffectual swatting at Noct's arm. Smacksmacksmack.]

You're so grossss! Ignis's butt turned my best friend into a gross horndog!

[ Buddy, no! But Noctis is laughing when he bumps against Prompto while he's swatting him. It's kind of cute and fun, when he gets to goof off with his best friend, one of the most important people in his life. ]

And hey -- ! Ignis' butt didn't -- [ Oh, Ignis' butt did, a lot. ] Look who's a gross horndog now!

I know you are, but what am I?

[What are we, five years old?]

C'mon, we're not doing anything sock-worthy. I'm a gentleman, ask anybody!

[ They're totally five! ]

Wait, what? [ Noctis raises his brows at him, curious despite himself. ] You're not doing anything?

[Prompto's entire face is burning, now, not just his cheeks. Clearing his throat into his fist, he glances away like he can physically dodge this line of questioning.]

We're not... doing nothing. But we haven't done. Uh. That. Not that you need to know!

[But if he can't talk about it with his best friend, who else could he ever tell?]

[nascere]

[ yeah, exactly! who the hell are you gonna talk about this to if not noctis, his bestest best best friend in all the world? he raises his brows at him, both amused and concerned. ]

Everything okay with you guys?

[ Not that there's anything wrong with not doing... that. But he's gotta check in with Prompto, this is his first serious girlfriend, right? ]

Yeah, yeah, of course! [He waves his hands like he can swat away the very thought.] It's not, like, a thing.

[Prompto follows up his glance aside with his whole body, moving half a step away and rubbing his face, all fidgety embarrassment and uncertainty.]

We just. Haven't talked about it. And I feel like something like that's something we gotta talk about first, you know? ...Right?

[First "serious" girlfriend, Noct? Try first romantic relationship at all, buddy.]

[nascere]

Yeah. I mean -- Ignis and I talked about... the thing.

[ Not that Noctis really wants to share, not even with his bestest best best friend in all the world because he's easily embarrassed and he's really not great with the shyness, but he wants to be encouraging!

Not that he's a great model for successful relationships; where's Gladio when you need him? ]

But yeah, talking's good. [ He pauses for a moment; he knows he probably should shepherd Ignis out because time is ticking, but he always has time for Prompto, always. ] Does she make you happy?

[Prompto's immediately nodding, earnest and emphatic.]

Yeah. Yeah, she makes me feel...

[Abruptly, he realizes he doesn't have the right word right away. Prompto blinks, then returns to rocking slowly on his feet, working the thought out physically, carefully as he goes.]

She makes me feel brave. Braver. Like, all these things I never thought I could do, suddenly I can, if it's for her.

[It's a vulnerable thing to be admitting, and the smile he offers Noct is vulnerable, too, and soft, and warm.]

You guys give me a place to belong. And then, with her... I can do that for her. I want to do that for her.

[He shrugs, slight smile crooked and real.]

You know?

[ Noctis decides that he likes it -- he likes seeing a look that soft on his face, and it occurs to him that he's rarely seen Prompto so genuinely, warmly, softly happy. He feels his heart skip a beat, a similar warmth curling in his chest.

Whatever his complicated feelings for Prompto, one thing stands out the most: he wants Prompto to be happy. He wants him to look like this for as long and as often as possible, and if Flora can do this for him, why not? It's bittersweet, and he reaches out to squeeze his wrist. ]

You always belong with us. And Flora, too. [ Now's not the time for roughhousing and teasing, not when everything is new and sensitive for Prompto -- the last thing Noctis wants is for Prompto to pull away. ]

I like it when you're happy. I mean, really happy. Like this. She's really good for you.

[His smile broadens as he pulls himself up straighter, encouraged.]

I think so, too. ...So no more scaring my girlfriend, Mr. Royal Pressure!

[And so Prompto returns them to roughhousing and teasing with a patpat to Noct's cheek, grinning boisterously.]

Come on! We've got a birthday party to throw, what're you standing around here for?

[Even so, he tucks something soft in this moment away forever. Noct took his wrist, not his shoulder or his hand, to confirm he belongs. And Noct knows about Niflheim, even if he hasn't lived through it yet himself.]

[nascere]

I don't do that on purpose!

[ Yeah, he remembers when he'd accidentally done it, more protective of Prompto than polite to her, and maybe he should probably come around to apologising for that, now that he's a little more satisfied that she isn't using him or something.

But anyway! Prompto is back to his high spirits and Noctis can't help but laugh, bumping him lightly. ]

All right, all right. I'm going. Remember, sock on the doorknob, and hanky-panky only after you've made the thing for Ignis!
