My dear fellow abductees,

The recent events involving Shadows and Shadow-Monsters led to the unfortunate loss of my hat; with their activity subsided, I assumed that my stolen goods would be returned to me. However, it appears they had one last prank to play on me: I am reunited with a hat, but not my own. It is a navy blue pork pie hat with a red and white ribbon, adorned with a cute pink flower. I've attached a rather poor image of it - my description may be of more use.

If you are the owner of this hat, it shall be returned to you. And if you have my hat - a fine silk top hat with a red tie - this is a notice of my intention to take it back, if you will not hand it over yourself.

I had never even imagined the possibility of a "living town" before I woke up knee-deep in well-water here, John. The world I come from is entirely average. If you find someone who has experience with such a thing, I'd like to speak to them, myself. It's simply a feeling I get the longer we go without a hint of evidence to the contrary.

you're from a world where alchemists are a thing, lupin. that could be considered abnormal to some people too.
but you're right. i was talking to someone else about it and the town seems to be responding to us directly.
that is the even scarier part. like it is feeding off of us.

Don't all words have science and scientists? Surely they must.

In any case, it remains a possibility, somehow. Alternatively it is a shadowy group somehow watching us from behind the scenes, or another entity of some sort whose true form we can't grasp, like a spirit. I wager that whatever it is must be using some kind of Magic as I cannot find any secrets, tricks or trap-doors anywhere through which they could send us crates and the like.

it would depend what you count as science. i am not sure if the trolls had normal science or not.
i thought the shadows were ghosts for a while, and anyway if it is another entity it explains why they aren't answering us.
we're being watched. it is not a coincidence that we finish quests and then get loot drops from them.
i've been looking, too, and everything so far seems to be as transparent as possible.
so it must be something that isn't here.

Oh, is she? Is that why she was saying that she could fly, and a lot of other strange things? I've not met her in person yet. (Furthermore, I'm aware some of the regular humans here can also fly, but I digress.)

uh. yes and no, that is kind of just a vriska thing. there are a lot of them but not all of them can fly.
(as one of the humans who can also fly thank you for digressing.)

I'm feeling rather left out. Being able to fly would be very helpful for me. Is that something I can learn?

haha. i do not know about learning but it was just something that we all knew how to do once we went godtier, and i am not sure that is a thing that can happen here.
but it's not that great after a while. really.

it's a level we hit in the game which means we are technically minor gods now. it's why we can use our aspects and fly and get eternally comfortable and self-cleaning pajamas now.
that was about three years ago.

lucky is a good word for it.
it makes up for the bad luck of not being able to help more. godtier or not we are still only minor gods and also he deals with time and i deal with wind. maybe if my sister were here she could open a portal or something to get us out of here but right now we are just about as powerless that way as you guys are. sorry.

I see - you're more like an old Roman god or one of those Eastern spirit-gods than an almighty God. That's a shame; however, there is absolutely no need for you to apologize. You are who you are, and though I have yet to meet you face-to-face, I rather like who you are thus far, "minor" or not.

even if we cannot do anything right now we're trying everything we can to help out.
and that is pretty much the best we can do.
