This is Lt. Colonel Guren Ichinose of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army. I don't expect that to mean anything to any of you, but if it can make anyone take me a little more seriously, then I'll take it.

I'm sure you all saw the illustration of those apparent shadow monsters. If there are dangers, it means we should be ready for them, and somehow I've run into a surprising few people who have enough experience in combat. Some of them don't have any at all.

Would any of you be interested in learning how to fight? To defend yourselves? What about the capable out there— are you willing to teach, or spar to improve yourselves? Let me know, and I can set something up for regular practicing.

(OOC: Basically, I thought it might be fun to encourage more random CR with both characters who would like to learn how to fight, and characters who already know how and are willing to teach or spar! If there's enough interest, I can throw up an ooc post with match up sort of things that can provide a semi-regular chance for new CR (via threading or handwaving). Let me know in your tag, or via PM if your character won't tag the post!

Watching is a little weird, but maybe you'll get something out of it. You can show up. Maybe I can convince you to join in.

If I don’t fight, I can’t hurt anyone. Watching is the best thing I can do.

If you don't fight, the people around you can get hurt. You can lose them. Even if you fight, it's not always enough. Are you going to stand by and watch if other people end up hurt by something else?

[How can text look so pathetic and sad... He doesn't understand it. He's not exactly weak to guilt, so he's a big rude jerk, but at least he can remember how Dextera was and cool it a little.]

Fighting monsters is good. Don't apologize.

[Secretly hoping for sass... But it gets enough of a laugh out of Guren that he even types it.]

Haha, it works enough. [Things he's not mentioning: 1. he almost never shows up to his own classes, 2. none of this matters anymore because shit is going down, 3. students die too much for this demon business. But anyway! If he won't work on his combat, then Guren will secretly move to the other important lesson!!]

Anyway, have you made any friends here?

I'm not sure. I think so.

What would count as a friend?

You don't know? Someone you become close with and want to protect. People you can get along with and work together with. Maybe even a crush.

You had to have run into plenty of people by now, but the definition of who your friends are is up to you. So, did you make any?

[ a crush... he doesn't know about that, but there are people that he thinks he likes. people who were kind to him. guren is among them, but there are others as well. ]

In that case, yes. Did you?

I'm talking to one, aren't I?

[Lame... but also a cop out for admitting anyone else is his friend. The question wasn't meant to be turned on him.]

Keep those people close. Whatever it is we're dealing with here, friends will always put you at an advantage. Protect each other and live for each other. As long as we have that, nothing else stands a chance.

dextera didn’t actually think that guren would up and admit to being friends with him, and he finds himself shying away from the laptop for a moment. ]

You sound confident in that. Thank you for the lesson... sir.

[Haha... the joke was good. It's a good sign, he thinks. It's also the only time he'll admit they're friends (or one of very few), so treasure it well.]

I’ve never had a friend before. Please be patient.

...but I’ve been told that friends aren’t supposed to fight each other.

[Ah. It's amazing how a light conversation can change in the middle and stab him through the heart. It's not Dextera's fault, of course, and he probably deserves it for guilt tripping him so much. But... "friends aren't supposed to fight each other."

A recent scene comes to mind immediately. Thrown punches, the rest of his friends unconscious, Shinya giving him that same pathetic look begging for answers. He takes a little longer to reply.]

It's fine if it's nothing serious like trying to kill each other. Friends who fight and work it out can grow a stronger bond than those who never fight at all.

You've really never had a friend?

[ dextera doesn’t realize the shift in tone, but he’s not one to keep going playfully for too long anyway—though if he knew, he would apologize too much, so maybe it’s for the best. ]

I don’t remember. Maybe... I have. It feels like there was someone important to me.

[It's fine, since he's quickly focusing in on this now, anyway.]

Do you have trouble with your memory?

[ oops! sensitive subject. it almost seems like he isn’t going to reply to it... but finally, he puts something up because he feels obligated. ]

Yes. I can’t tell you much about myself because of it.

[Worrying. And again, he thinks of human experimentation? The seraph of the end? It doesn't make sense, though.]

Don't worry about that. We're in the now, so you can focus on making new memories. Whether you want to try to get your old ones back, friends can support you with something like that.

For what it’s worth... I think I prefer the memories I’ve made to the ones I’ve lost.

Anyway, I think I've got a way you can help me out with this. It won't involve fighting, but I'll tell you in a few days once I've figured it all out.
